My 2026 Iowa season

5 small mouth yesterday and 5 today plus bit off by a northern. Was up by the humming bird channel this morning and hooked into something huge. Couldn't bring em up so I'm assuming a big flathead or sturgeon, maybe a big carp.
I think I feel a terrible cold coming on.**cough cough**it will probably settle in around noon tomorrow. Rest will be best.

Thursday morning went up the hill for a quick sit. I wasn't really feeling it that morning so only going to sit for a bit. About an hour and half after shooting light I stood up to stretch my legs and I ll be dammed I spooked a doe that was fifty yards behind me that I didn't know was there. Oh well I just packed up and went in for breakfast.

Back out in the afternoon I decided to head over to the next ridge to where I shot the buck the night. An hour before dark out pops a spiker and works 30 yards behind me. Only have antlerless tag so just snapped a picture.

Im sitting about 50 yards off an old clear-cut that has thick brush and right at the last couple minutes of shooting light I can hear some deer just inside the brush but never got eyes on em.

Off to go fishing with dad this morning.

I just tuned into this thread. Nice reading.

I've been looking at a lot of stuff Iowa lately due to some family research I'm doing.

Seems like you have a good time.

The fishing was nothing to brag about. A few more small mouth that were short and dad got two small bluegills. Wife drove up to the cabin so I spent the evening and this morning with her. Now I'm out for the last evening sit. Already with two deer I don't need another but if an opportunity presents itself I might just take it. Still have another week off of work so Im heading home in the morning to take care of some things for a few days then hopefully get back to the cabin for some more fall fishing.

We had deer roast last night, and I had it for breakfast this morning too.

Go ahead and get another, to be sure you can share with someone. I have two bags of roast ready to go to a guy at work who doesn't hunt but supports hunting and makes a great stew that he brings a bowl to work for me.
