I should have had an absolute awesome photo coming out with my elk last year. The lighting was perfect as we crested a peak with the sunset in our faces. It could have been a perfect silhouette against a beautiful sunset.

Problem was, Both mine and my buddy had left our cameras at the kill site where pictures had been taken. The 2nd trip was done in complete darkness.....

Here's my pack out pictures pretty much in order.

2008 Wyoming Elk. My first.

2010 Wyoming Elk.

2010 New Mexico Elk. I didn't make it very far with this load! Ended up dropping the head and cape off about 1/4 mile down the mountain and paid some guys on horses to get it the next day.

2011 New Mexico Elk.

2013 Wyoming Elk. This one gets 2 pictures.

2014 Wyoming Elk. That's 2 boned out hind quarters, plus my gear, plus the head (no cape). I didn't make it far with this load either but I came back for it the next morning.

One boned out hindquarter and the antlers and not much else in the pack. Much more manageable.

I've got a few pictures of deer getting packed out and my mountain goat but none of them turned out very good.

There are few that know that feeling. That's the kind of pack out that puts a hit on the amount of "suffer" you have to spend for a season.
