That shot was with a Nikon D7200 and a kit lens (18-105). It isn't a bad set up, I just missed focus and didn't take advantage of a better light angle.

This one was the day before with a D750 and 70-200 2.8. Little better.

Beautiful! I need to be more disciplined and start carrrying/using my camera in the field.

We had a pretty good goose hunt just before Christmas. I have spent most of my free time chasing waterfowl this year. First year in a long time that I didn't put much effort into the big game species, but I had a blast this year.AFJR0312.JPGBWJU1113.JPGEHEB5611.JPGIMG_E7743.JPGVVVN1118.JPG

Today was the last day of the pheasant season for Iowa. We had a storm coming in but that probably helped kick the birds out of the stubble and into the grass where we could get after them. I had a chance to limit out, but couldn't pull it off, so settled for two. One was poorly shot landed in a smooth tilled field on the run. Gus locked on and hit afterburners to get after him. He caught the bird just inside the grass and apparently required several grabs before he had it subdued. Lost all the tail feathers as a result. This was a mature bird and would have been a beauty until the very end.

Sorry for the crappy pictures. Been a tough year for photos and a hard time on guns this year.
