Hi All,
In order to make the most of our license we were going to do some bird hunting.
We cant bring over shotguns as well as rifles so i have had a look at the laws in Montana, i cant find anything that states we couldnt buy a shotgun as a non US resident whilst over there.
It is a very desperate measure but if we could pick up a very cheap gun and hopefully 'bump' into some birds whilst out walking it would make our day.
Am i correct?
Oh, also bringing my fly rod as well.
Cheers
Richard

I think you should be able to purchase. The UK is under the Visa Waiver Program which can get you by the "non immigrant visa" restriction of the 1968 Gun Control Act.

I would call the ATF and the authorities in Montana to confirm. I'd also figure out where you could be purchasing a gun (which local shops) call them and open a dialogue, see if they have any reservations and further identify if they have something for you to purchase.

Though a good bet might be the kind heart of someone around here. I'd be happy to lend you a shotgun if I was local and headed out with you.

For some reason I was expecting to see bird hunting photos with a brittany. Good luck with your dilemna.

Devon, what part of MT are you hunting? I take it you are planning to hunt the Southwest corner of the state??? I live in the Northwestern part of the state, but if you are hunting anywhere close to here, I'd be happy to let you borrow my shotgun.

Gerald ,i have been told that some of the lodges that cater to bird hunters keep guns for foreign nationals. If thats true what do you think his chances would be of renting one? I can say i have never heard of a situation like this but it would be cool if we could help him find an answer .Damn nice of you to make such a kind offer.

Thanks for the advice and offers guys.
All sorted now thanks to the generosity of you guys a forum member sent me a pm and is lending me one.
Great forum this!

Fowladdict, until 12 months ago i never even knew what a brittany was!
They just arent very common where i shoot but a new member on our shoot brought one, only trouble is it was uncontrolable!
We use english springers and labs mainly on our little shoot, sometimes my friend brings along his vizla.

Cheers

Interesting! I always assumned that a Brittany came from Brittain. I had to look it up and turns out they are a French breed. That explains a lot. :)

If you make it over to Idaho, I hunt over brittanys and shorthairs and would take you out with me on an upland hunt.
