Leupold BX-4 Rangefinding Binoculars

Before Chet Huntley changed the "Canyon"

Some more shots from the summer with Lone Peak in the background. Not "back in the day" but they will be someday.. LuckyMike, I checked the albums you have in your account.. Wow! Awesome to click through those photos. You've hunted Montana, no doubt!

I had some serious fun this year, while scouting for goats in that country. Lone Peak was almost always on the horizon, or blocked from view by better peaks.

Greenhorn, I got the idea to find and post the picture of Lone Mountain when I was looking at your goat hunting album on Facebook. Enjoyed all of your pictures, especially liked the live shots of your super billy. I really liked the way you gave that goat tag your total commitment.

Greenhorn,
Your pictures don't get old.Thank goodness those peaks are preserved and won't be exploited.I've done alot of climbing up there, but have focused on other areas in recent years. The pics make want to get back.Last loop I did up there was Deer cr-Wilson pk.-Chipperfield-Summit lake-Chilled lakes-Gallatin Pk-and out Hell Roaring. Its a special place.

You Montana guys will recognize where this is immediately. But, I'll bet there aren't very many on here who can remember seeing Lone Mountain in its natural state. This picture was taken while bighorn hunting in the unlimited area in 1971 or 1972.

This is great. I've glassed sheep from that very spot you're sitting, this month. "Stoney Point" 50 years later..

There was an upper 160’s to low 170’s ram standing on the road at the base of it yesterday morning.

Kind of ironic how an old thread pops back to life.

Here’s a ten minute old pic of the area.

Ain’t progress grand? 🤮🤑🤑

I've been hearing of some of the best rams being on the road this summer already. I have a feeling some of the biggest rams this year will get sniped early near the highway, and probably one, especially, on the Madison River.

Me too. Tough deal though. Trophy homes or sprawl. Take your pick. mtmuley
I agree it’s a tough deal. From other posts, it seems Gerald is making some coin building houses in that valley. If they can contain it to one valley to drive some economic prosperity for the state and still leave vast stretches untouched, maybe not a bad thing in the grand scheme. But there’s always the risk it then turns into CO. No right or wrong answers here, just finding the right balance.

Yeah. Contain it to a Valley. Great idea. The only reason some of the "stretches" are untouched is because of some of the big players. You know, the ones that don't allow hunting. mtmuley

I hope some more of the big players buy up the working ranches that come on the market and keep them as conservation properties before developers get them.

Preservation of habitat is better than winter range fragmentation.
