Ballot initiative to repeal HB637

Needs assholes to know y'er a good guy/gal.

Hey boo. How you doing?

:)

I'd love to play football with some of you guys. You start on your 40 yard line & give up yards immediately, then help push your opponent into the end zone.

The Initiative should happen regardless of what be found in common relative to season structure. There are so many problems with code as it sits, that only a CI can fix it, and provide for the real public trust management.

If we want to negotiate our hunting opportunities away in the fervent chase of 190" muley bucks, then that's on you guys, but I think you'll run into a buzzsaw of opposition form that. And I think that's essentially what some folks want - skim milk for the public, while the paying sports keep the cream.

The most important thing MT can do for wildlife is to start managing habitat across a broad spectrum of lands. Allocation of the resource becomes secondary when the habitat is good. That includes security cover, forbs, feed, etc. What works for Eastern MT isn't necessarily going to work in Western MT if the ecotypes are completely different, and migrations are different.

Claiming to want the scientific management of wildlife, and actually managing wildlife based on the science are two vastly different things. One is easy, the other is pretty difficult, and isn't going to produce a booner buck behind every pine or sagebrush.

To go on a little tangent, this is what makes the nation’s only wildlife management unit, the Elkhorns WMU, so special. All federal and state agencies managing the landscape and wildlife in concert for the benefit of the habitat - and in some really cool ways it shows.

As to the initiative, I’ll dedicate any useful talent and treasure I can. I hope there are folks behind the scenes spinning up the process. We need to send this message.

Love it when the usual suspect (suspects) play the party card while trying to convince everyone they are independent.

TFF

Must have hit close to home. LOL
Haha! One would think if you look in the mirror yourself.. ;)

I've openly shared my voter cards in the past to clearly show I'm independent. I voted Cooney and your wonder boy Quist even though he wasn't all there.
Should add: Tester x's 2, Schweitzer x's 2, even Bullock. I lean conservative though I've voted and am registered Independent.

Nice try... again Tony.

In what way/ways has outfitting affected you in negative ways? I'm curious to know.
Fair question. One of the biggest effects in the future going to be that my NR family and friends will have a much more difficult time to draw due to the unfair priority of outfitted clients whose can buy 2 preference points per year when others can only buy one.
In some years my hunting has been directly affected by the public land outfitter in the area I hunt booking so many hunters they over saturated the area. They had 21 hunters in camp in an area they usually take 6-8. That was probably an anomaly because we usually aren’t in direct competition and both make efforts to stay out of areas that each other hunts most frequently.
I am expecting a lot of pressure this season in my normal hunting area because he will have full to capacity camps since everyone he booked can buy a tag and there is the normal amount or more DIY guys.

I’ve had to spend 8 days of my own time and experienced some very public and personal backlash for my willingness to testify against a licensed guide who I videoed poaching. He was convicted, yet working for an outfitter on the MOGA board that same winter.

There are other instances of friends who had outfitters attempt to bluff them away from public trailheads.

What about hunters I’ve run into? Those who claim to have “permission from the landowner” then try to run me off? It’s happened on our place and places
I lease to hunt. I’ve had “hunters” look me
In the eye and ask “what you doing here”. “We have permission, you need to leave “.

I’d bet you’ll get a ton of likes and ppl who give you kudos for this, and don’t understand. Thank you for being consistent
I give you a thumbs up. For being consistent and understanding the way things work. Even if we don’t agree eye to eye on little things...we understand and
Have larger view of life/wildlife Than most and way more
In common and understand it

I have had a few hunters claim to have "permission form the landowner". Most just insist that they are on public land when they are not. If one of them ever said "what you doing here". "We have permission, you need to leave". I would be laughing so hard, I would be helpless.

Can't fault the ranch owner. They can deal with one person who pays them $15,000 and escorts hunters onto the ranch or get paid $15,000 by FWP for block management and have dozens (Type II) or hundreds (type I) of hunters on the property. Seems like an easy decision to me. I agree it only takes a few assholes to ruin it for the rest, but the number of the assholes seem to be growing from what I see. Blaming the Outfitters is an easy-out, but the solution to fixing that is more complicated.
Well said.
