Backpacker magazine on hunting

So does the granola muncher pull the trigger or not??

Seems like i only got half the story then it just....ended. I'm not signing up for the magazine.

EDIT...

"Hiking with a bomb in your hands" ??? Haha, I can't stop laughing, and I've only read half the story.

Pretty good article, I thought.

I think I'll let a few of my rock climbing friends read it. Maybe I can convert a few with that article.

And kudos to the guy who wrote it...probably took a lot of balls.

I think it is the only article that I have ever seen in that type of magazine that was done fairly. BTW you have to click on the numbers at the bottom of the article to keep reading, there are 9 pages. But worth it.

Good writer.. if the story were a 30 minute film segment Mike Rowe could play the author. I thought the urban sprawl and cultural influence impact statements well said. Overall more positive, considering the source, than I would expect but still non committal IMO.

Outstanding article.

This was me 10 years ago. I grew up hiking, camping, backpacking, climbing, mountain biking, etc -- everything in the outdoors except hunting. Then one day I had an opportunity to go and fortunately was open-minded enough to give it a chance. Many of the writer's experiences and reactions were very similar to my own.

I think the author was as committal as he could be for Backpacker Magazine. He did pull the trigger afterall and left us with this quote...
“Harder than it looks,” I say. “But a hell of a lot of fun.”

Btw, I was surprised to see Mike Gauthier's name here. He is a legend in American mountaineering. I have his Mt Rainier guidebook. It's too bad he did not tag out as well. I'd have enjoyed reading some more of his thoughts on the experience.

I thought the article was very well done.
There's quite a bit of overlap in the backpacking and hunting communities, good to see it being featured like this.
