Well I'm having my right ankle operated on next week to remove some torn cartilage and repair a bone edema. Recovery time looks to be 3 months, so there goes turkey season. Has anyone had something like this done? How did it go?

P.S. When your wife tells you not to jump over the creek and you do it anyway, be prepared to hear about it for a very long time. I cleared the creek, just didn't stick the landing.

Be meticulous with the rehab, every single instruction is important.... and be patient with the progress.

I injured my ankle back in late October and was finally able to have surgery this past Thursday. It is very painful right now and recovery is a long ways off. I tore both ligaments, my cartlidge and had a small fracture, all from playing basketball with my kids.

I wish you the best of luck, and get some good pain killers!

Best to ya, summit... look at the brightside, physical recovery should pass by in a flash compared to a wife's reminder of your episode. Haha! :)

Wish you the best in your recovery. You will fit right in at the sewing machine now. We'll be seeing some really clean stitch patterns on your tipi tent ;)

I had surgery on my left ankle, stick with the Physical Therapy. It's worth it. Painful, but worth it.

I have broke both my ankles before. One required surgery and one didn't. It is a tough deal no matter how you look at it.

Take it easy and let it heal is the best advise I can give. My ankle is still jacked up because I didn't do that.

Best of luck, and stick to the therapy.

Here is what mine looked like 7 years ago. It was a very long process to get back to normal. I feel like an old man when I say my bones aches when a storm moves in.

Cast was on for 6 weeks, walking boot for 4 weeks and a cane for another month.

It was about 1 year before I could put my backpack on with 70lbs and walk thru the hills.

Good luck in your recovery.

JCS: did your surgeon misplace one of the screws?

Nope. If you could have looked at a different angle you can see it was right where it belonged. I actually had the screws and plate removed 9 months later. What relief.

Thanks guys, I'm headed in Wednesday afternoon. My four year old asked if there going to cut my foot off, boy I hope not!

I cleared the creek, just didn't stick the landing.

Sounds more like the landing stuck you. Sorry about your ankle. Work hard on the rehab and you'll be rewarded.

I found out last week that I have a hernia--the hard way--while I was on the vertical leg press. Been walking like I have coconuts hanging between my legs for a week. Didn't keep me from taking my oldest after javelina this weekend, but we got skunked. I'll be on the shelf too after surgery next week. Too many birthdays.

Best of luck matey, i sliced through my tendons in my wrist whilst skinning a deer, after the op had 3 months of physio therapy which brought it back to 95% functionality.

Only problem is now i damaged my shoulder lifting a deer into my truck, had a steroid injection 2 months ago but its effect is wearing off, so it will need an operation, but when?
I fish all summer and shoot all winter!

Cheers

Richard
