Probably closer to 300 wsm308 will be getting a lot closer to your 300RUM soon. 3-08-2027 is my guess![]()
No I actually went from a 300 RUM to a 6.5PRC. Never looked at a criedmoreDidn't you buy a 6.5PRC over a 6.5CM for those few hundred fps? Now we can have 6.5PRC performance (and better/faster) out of a 6.5CM. Now if they do +Peak in the PRC the difference will still exist.
. . . because of the 200-300 fps gain the 6.5 PRC got you over the killsmore? No I actually went from a 300 RUM to a 6.5PRC. Never looked at a criedmore
According to ballistic charts, my 20" 6.5CM is getting pretty close to the minimum expansion velocity of the 120 copper bullet I'm shooting at 400 yards. If the conditions are right, that's a shot I'll take, but i would've liked a little better blood trail on the 390 yard lung shot on my whitetail this last weekend to help find him in the thick willows. I think I can probably get that with a different bullet, but don't mind a little extra wiggle room on the velocity end if I can get it.I’m not seeing the reason for so much hype for a couple hundred fps. What diff does that even make?
I was actually hunting a lot before I bought my element with a borrowed 6.5 GAP and lost fps by not going that route. It wasn’t the decision maker. I’m rebarrelling my 6.5prc to a shorter barrel - last concern was losing a few fps.. . . because of the 200-300 fps gain the 6.5 PRC got you over the killsmore?

I thought the only reason I've seen people choose 6.5PRC over CM was the 2-300 fps velocity advantage? Perhaps with the right action you can handload longer/heavier bullets to fit in magazine, but the +peak is loading a 156 load so IDK if that advantage is still there either? Just curious if velocity wasn't the decision maker, what was as that rifle is chambered in both IIRC?I was actually hunting a lot before I bought my element with a borrowed 6.5 GAP and lost fps by not going that route. I didn't get the hype for the 6.5 PRC. This is the same/better performance as PRC, in a smaller existing cartridge that will work with existing rifles without the need for a new barrel or action, just purchasing a box of ammo similarly priced to brass-hunting ammo. Seems more hype worthy to me than another PRC/Hornady cartridge announcement (albeit perhaps not as much as we've seen, but that's just the world we live in I guess) . . .I get it, just not all the hype.

Its cool to me that short action cases can be hot rodded to light magnum velocities now. Call that hype i guess - but the ability to have both in one gun is nice.
Hornady engineers are probably furiously scribbling at their desks right now. mtmuleyI thought the only reason I've seen people choose 6.5PRC over CM was the 2-300 fps velocity advantage? Steel isn't workable like that from what I understand. Long threads on another site about loading steel cases and cracking without necking. mtmuleyNecking the peak case up or down has me intrigued
Hype didn’t make me buy any rifles in the last 25 years. I bought that seekins as a good friend had one before me and I really liked it. 6.5prc because I was steered that direction by a handful of friends that shoot way more of a lot of things than I ever will in addition to a giant headstart on years of loading for it. It’s unlikely I’ll ever chamber a factory made piece of ammo in it but you never know.I thought the only reason I've seen people choose 6.5PRC over CM was the 2-300 fps velocity advantage? Hope it works for you. It's all interesting for sure. Fun to read about. mtmuleyGuys are already doing it. Lee sells dies for the 6.5 peak and I believe short action customs is making them. Seeing guys necking it down to 6mm creedmoor already with 6.5 creedmoor bushing dies. Here’s from another website using the Peak cases

Aren't the advertised velocities for this new Creed round still below the PRC velocity?

Hammer site has some info. mtmuleyMy hang up is what do you watch for as far as pressure signs when working up with these cases
