When Spitz and another hunting pal, Ryan, passed on this buck, I wondered, "What the hell were they thinking?" Hey, their tags, they should do what they want.

Yesterday, Spitz, Ryan, and I went whitetail hunting on a ranch where I shot a big whitetail earlier this season. Didn't see anything huge, but we did find this buck bedded at about 400 yards.

I offered to film both of them while they stalked and shot this buck. Graciously, they both declined, telling me to bring my son, Matthew, out in the morning and see if he could shoot the buck.

Well, Matthew, took one look at the buck and was happy to oblige. Can't be having these kind of freaks in the gene pool. Ten minutes after shooting light, this buck had chased his last doe.

As the saying goes, "If you can't shoot a big one, shoot an ugly one!"

This one isn't huge, but he is closer to the big end of the scale than he is to the small end of the scale.

His extra main beam and palmation, put him real high on the ugly meter.

Here are a few pics to give you an idea of how cool this buck looks: :p

Very good mass and tine length, even on the side that is a typical 4-point

Heavy palmation on the drivers side.

A third main beam comes up about 16" and has two nice points coming off.

The view Matthew had as this buck walked away at 150 yards. Hard to pass on that. At least for whitetail junkies like me and Matthew.

Spitz is either the kindest guy around, or the pickiest.

Spitz: Matthew says, "Thanks" to you and Ryan for letting him have your left-overs. :D

What a great morning. A great buck. A great hunt.

Man, I am a happy guy. :)

Cool looking buck, congrats to the kid. I'd have made the same choice he did.

Randy, congrats to your son on that buck. He looks better up close than he did from a far. As for Matthew taking him without thinking twice . . . there's a reason he'll be going to a school like MIT while I went to the Univ. of Idaho.

We'll need a name for that buck. Any ideas?

Thats a sweet buck, not sure if I could have passed him up either. Contrats.

Sure do miss hunting those river bottoms. Sitting in a tree stand watching the same 50yard radius all morning gets pretty old.

Awesome buck! Congrats to Matthew! I would have been tickled to get an opportunity at such a unique buck. It looks like you have a great spot to hunt there!

Continued success to you and your family..
