A lot more bucks like this one.



We lost count at some point but pretty confident we saw close to 75 different bucks today when it was all said and done.

A lot of miles on the truck, not many on the boots today.

Did see a very unique buck right before dark tonight that I’m thinking about going after tomorrow. He stays out wide and there is almost a zigzag to his horn above the prong. It was too dark to get pictures through the scope but he was pretty cool. Odds of finding a 80” buck seem pretty low so might just settle with a unique one instead.

Here is a picture of one of the little bucks we saw. This guy was probably 16” tall but almost zero mass. My buddy took this with his cell phone. He was 57 yards away with no concern whatsoever for us.

He seemed young. You could have probably got your hand completely around his horns at the base. Very tall and skinny horns.

Turned the zigzag one up this morning maybe 200 yards from where he was last night and 100 yards still onto private.

He’s got a group of about a dozen does gathered up and working on keeping them in line.

Waiting and watching for a while to see if they will make a move off private.

They are bedding down on private. They are in a spot where they could go 100 yards north and be on public, about 700 yards south and be on public or 400 yards east and be in the wrong unit. Anything west is still going to be private. Trying to decide to sit and wait or to go look for something else.

Well, we were on the road and my buddy got out and went for a walk and they busted out about 3/4 of a mile west further into private. Think we will have to go look at other options.

This guy has 27 does and there are 3 other bucks hanging around looking for scraps. Just can’t see that he is worth shooting.



Going to try to turn up the big bodied buck from yesterday around this time.

I only had 4 points. I think it takes 7? I drew in the random.

5 1/2 hours left today and then probably about the same tomorrow morning before I need to be headed home. Tag is good through the end of October. Doubt I would be able to get back up here if I don’t shoot something today or tomorrow though.

Lunch was a bust. Going to go check on the zigzag buck again. Might shoot a medium buck this evening but might hold out for tomorrow morning. Some weather is supposed to be coming in around noon tomorrow and I would like to beat it getting the trailer out to pavement.

Biggest buck so far and freakiest buck so far together with the same hot doe.

Just need to figure out how to make it happen. They are at 1,000 yards.

Of course it is going to be a tricky stalk on either.
