2025 Garden!

Think I'm going to let my asparagus patch go now. Let it grow and seed out. I've pretty much had my fill for the year and have a couple meals worth left in the fridge. It should really take off now with the rain. We got a little over 3 inches so far!

so I'll call the cabbage experiment a success. Zucchini is basically done, the heat has fully shown up and is zapping the life out of things in the garden. Trying to squeeze out a few more cucumbers, tomatoes are going strong for now. Winter squash is turning on, sweet potatoes are hitting full stride. Beans going well.

Good start on 2025 garden thanks for the walls of water I used. Gonna have tomatoes and zucchini way early. They are kinda stressed being in the walls of water so long but they will recover fine in a week or so.

Ours is looking pretty good. It's early for much harvest yet but we've been eating a bunch of radishes and lettuce.

You're not supposed to pick any the first year of planting. After that, once they start popping it's only a few days until they get tall enough to cut. Weather can speed up or delay growing. My patch is about 3x15 and I leave the real skinny ones and the super fat ones grow. I'll pick for about 3 weeks or until I'm tired of eating them and then let it all grow and seed out. I could still pick some now but want to fill in the gaps in the plants.

Got another 3 quarts or so out of the strawberry patch this morning. Strawberry rhubarb pie in the oven presently.

3 if you plant it from seed, 2 if you plant crowns is my experience.

If the plants look good and strong on the second year I'll pick a little. But usually don't pick hard until the third season. I started new crowns this year and they finally came up in the last couple of weeks. Now to get them through the summer and winter for next year.

Don't tar and feather me but I think I will just buy the few pieces I eat through the year. Besides I live in the SE NM desert so they probably wouldn’t even grow. I planted a peach tree 5ish years ago and still can’t figure out why it won’t produce. Any help there GREATLY appreciated!!

I planted about 20 crowns this spring and a handful of them are already about 15” tall. I’ll supplement planting more crowns if needed. Really excited for my future patch. I can eat fresh spargle to the end of the earth and back. By far my favorite vegetable. Never gets old.

Has the tree flowered at all? Depending on which end of Nevada you're on, could be lack of a dormancy period or frost wiping out the buds.
