2025 Garden!

Everything is up got the warm stuff planted before I left for Nebraska turkey hunting, it was up when I got back. Cool stuff like taters, radish, lettuce and onions, broccoli, cauliflower carrots, cabbage doing very well. It's been a wet cook spring, finally got some sunshine and warmer temps and the the rest of the stuff is taking off.

Good start on 2025 garden thanks for the walls of water I used. Gonna have tomatoes and zucchini way early. They are kinda stressed being in the walls of water so long but they will recover fine in a week or so.

How do you like those square tomato cages? I still just stake mine.

We have had so much rain and so little sunshine my beans are up but plants are yellowed from lack of sunshine.

Potato harvest, onion harvest i did so so. Red snapper tomato, sweet bell pepper variety, cherry tomato variety, mix of san Marzano and a beefsteak tomatoes, wider view of the san marzano's, and finally Seminole pumpkin.

How do you like those square tomato cages? I still just stake mine.

I like them better than stakes. I can raise heavy branches and keep airflow going and nothing on the ground. These are early girl variety and tend to bear fruit heavy so some branches require more support than stakes can give you. Better than the cheap round cone shaped I was buying too.

We got pea sized hail at the house layered about 1/2 in thick but no damage to garden really. Two days in a row with hail. Hope that does not become the routine. I have had years where my garden got completely destroyed by hail.

1/2 inch hail for half an hour yesterday might have damaged the apple sets. The trees are liking the warm air and rain tho.

No real rain here in months or at least in my spot of paradise.
Picked radishes yesterday. Things are finally growing.
Been having issues with too much organic matter in my beds that doesn't allow the moisture/water to go down deep.
We bought some new water heads for tripods and took the worthless rain-birds off. I finally got the moisture down into the beds.
Bought 2 sizes of wobble heads and 2 sizes of spinners from A.M. Leonard, for those wanting to know.
It took a good hour or better letting the sprinkler run. Will have a ton of weeds now but maybe I've finally getting things going the right way.

Cherries are finally ripe so the grand kids can stop bugging me about when the cherries will be ripe. One asked how she will know when they are ripe, and I told her that she will come over one day and there won't be any cherries on the tree because they got ripe and I picked 'em.

Getting into my favorite time of year for the garden. Regular meals with squash and zucchini, tomatoes starting to get ripe, dragonflies holding down the mosquito population. Got my eye on a few cherokee purples that look fantastic. San marzanos will be turning soon. Sunsugar cherry tomatoes already turning. Had our first squash and zucchini this week. Zucchini plants are struggling a little, not sure why. Hopefully the late planting of them will pick up the slack. Got a poblano that is about ready to come off too. Trying to use enough basil is about impossible right now. Also happy to see several persimmons growing well in the tree's first year at our place.

This is day 5 of rain. I guess I shouldn't complain, garden looks great. Have around 40 tomatoe plants mostly San marzanos and romas. A couple tiger romas, cherry, and beefsteak for eating fresh. Watermelon, cantaloupe, bell and banana peppers, green beans are all up and doing great. My carrots didn't do worth a shit in grow bags but potatoes and sweet potatoes are going great. I planted lettuce in the grow bags that had carrots and its all up.

Finally have everything pretty much in, besides moving a few started pumpkins into the big garden, and the next intervals of peas, beans and cucumbers.
Frost nailed a few tomatoes last weekend, so we will see how they rebound

So close. I'm gone for a few days next week and I've got a feeling the tomatoes are gonna be spiteful and wait til then before I can have my mater sandwich. Late planting of squash, beans, and okra are all up now. Wildflowers blooming. Lots of peppers coming. Makes dealing with the hot, humid mornings and evenings a little nicer.

Not really garden, but I got our big annual pumpkin patch planted June 10th. (250) Hills of standard Jacko lantern type, (20) hills of Atlantic giants, (40) hills of misc. ornamentals. Still had some extra tilled area, so planted another (50) hills of cantaloupe from seeds a buddy had given me. We will have cantaloupe coming out our ears if they produce.

We got 1.5” of much needed rain today unfortunately was some hail mixed in. Most of pepper and tomato plants got shredded. I think only a handful will make it

6/14 pulled 3’ weeds that had taken over the garden beds. Removed rocks and debris. Tilled up the dirt.

Spent Father’s Day putting in the very late vegetable garden. Lots of $$$ to buy plants - do not recommend! Most was 50% off, but still way more than seeds. Seeds I can put in at this point are mostly cool season crops. I did try okra seeds, will see if they come up, package says 55 days to maturity, and our average first frost is Oct 7. I also tried something new by putting down mulch this year.

Tomatoes, bell peppers, onions mixed with carrots, sweet potatoes, watermelon, honeydew, musk melon, cantaloupe, pumpkin, cucumbers, butternut squash, broccoli, cauliflower, kohlrabi, okra.
