160 through Colorado?

Fine tuning our trip this Christmas and was wondering how 160 from I-25 west through Durango would NORMALLY be in mid December. Any expectations of how this year will be? I can always stick to 25 down to 40, just thought this would be a nicer route to head West to the Grand Canyon. It's been over 40 years since I've been through there!

2 passes La Veta and Wolf Creek. La Veta usually not to bad, Wolf Creek can be the snowiest place in the state at times but not a scary drive in general. If its currently snowing then I'd stay south.

Yep. I used to drive La Veta in the winter in my little '89 Nissan Sentra without too much trouble- it's pretty mild as far as passes go. Wolf Creek is steeper and more curves - not too bad if they've had time to keep up with plowing. Pretty drive.

If it's icy you'll get good gas mileage from Wolf Creek in to Pagosa Springs.

Thanks, folks. I'll be watching the weather and probably decide on the fly when it happens. I'd rather go that way instead of going all the way down to 40. Good thing we're not there now!

Use cotrip.org. Great resource for real time colorado road conditions. I hear the app isn't very good but the web page is great right down to the traffic cameras for some of the roads.

I like that web site! I saw some snow on the road at Wolf Creek Pass with their camera, but decided we would give it a shot. It was a real pretty drive, and yes, it was snowing up there! No problem. Just like driving at home most of the winter. Just wish it would have been a clear day to see more. It was pretty socked in up high.
