10th Circuit Corner Crossing Ruling: What does this mean for MT?

Could it maybe not help by spreading pressure out amongst previously inaccessible lands? Give the current accessible populations a break?

I’m sure you’ll snap back and say no. I’m just spitballing. I certainly don’t think it’s going to increase the number of hunters afield.
The only thing keeping wildlife alive in Montana is lack of access. It’s a free for all, if you opened up everything with Montana management history will repeat itself. You can call me a sniveling bitch but that is a fact. Especially in open terrain with the technology we have. You won’t solve Montana’s issues with more access it will make it worse.

Deeply disappointed to see our new FWP director misstate the law.

I've posted this before, and plan on updating this analysis in the very near future, but for a more accurate picture of what is and is not "illegal" in Montana, read this:

Have you tried to contact the FWP director for dialogue?

It's on my to-dos, though I just saw this this morning and am packing up to go try and help a buddy fill his bull tag this weekend. Need to set aside some time next week when I get back to make the call.

I was impressed with her answers at her confirmation hearing, and I know she is willing to work with conservation orgs on these issues. It is worth noting that she emphasized in this article using block mgmt to bypass corner issues, which is the bill we brought in the last session.

I’ve been trying to get an answer on this and maybe we can get this in front of the right people with this thread

I called the region 5 BMA map specialist named Ian and he told me you corner cross via foot at the corner to access that SE portion of the private. But that section is bordered by 2 different private land owners. But he was wondering why I was questioning if corner crossing can happen.

Is this actually a case where fwp shows it’s legal to corner cross?

There is another region 5 map in 540 that’s the same way where you can only access via corner crossing. I called fwp last fall about it and they sent me up the food chain ultimately with no one giving me an answer.

The piece I see there is surrounded on both sides by the Griffith ranch (ones called mud creek still owned by Griffith) which is still BMA. Just have to be signed into them too, i would suppose…
This is the section you’re referring too right ?

But those aren’t active right now. The one I posted is active and you could go sign in and go on that land today. The others aren’t.

So you can’t access the inactive ones to get to an active one. That’s trespassing since no one has permission while it’s inactive

Also there is another map in region 5 that’ll come open this fall that has neither other bmas around it and it has the same corner. And it’s in the BMA saying it’s accessible but you could only legally cross at the corner without going on someone else’s land. But like I said fwp gave me the run around last year.

If corner crossing is illegal then private land that has to be accessed at a corner shouldn’t be allowed to be block management in my opinion.

I also asked the Ian gentleman if the other landowners gave permission to corner cross and he said it didn’t matter and they didn’t have that record
