Wyoming Pronghorn Rut

I'll heading to Wyoming in a couple days to chase lopes with the bow. Any info on the status of the rut? Especially south of Buffalo

The peak of the rut is usually around Oct 1. For bow hunting you really probably want hot dry weather. Best of luck.

I was out in that area last week. A little bit of chasing and such, but nothing serious yet.

I saw bucks starting to join does and just starting to act a little rutty about a week ago in Central Wyo. Last week in Northern Colo there were actually dominate bucks chasing smaller bucks from doe groups. There also were quite a few bucks off by themselves and not with does in both of those areas.

The aspens are starting to turn a lot earlier this year here in Colo (likely due to the hot, dry summer). It looks like rut activity is also a little ahead of schedule.

Not Wyoming, but as of last weekend:

Western ND - bucks are with does and defending their harems. Bucks were actively breeding does.

SE Montana - a mix. Some bucks were still by themselves and not really looking for does and some herds of does were still without a buck near by. Some herds had multiple bucks hanging out within the same herd and they all seemed pretty content with each other. Some herds had what looked like the beginning stages of some hierarchies starting to develop. Some bucks actively out cruising looking for does. Some bucks were actively defending their harems, but not being super aggressive yet. I witnessed no breeding.

I’d wager every day will get better until beginning of October when I feel like bucks start splitting off their main harem looking for unbred stragglers. But that’s just my experience. Ymmv

Here in the central part of the state I’m seeing increased activity every day. Saw some bucks chasing and they are grouping up.
