yard shot and got his first bull elk - a raghorn. His shooting was beyond my current comfort distance but they had the gear and practice to do it. I was impressed. And the 16 yr old took the heaviest load on the rough pack out.

I'll simply agree to disagree with some on this particular topic. If killing an animal requires I shoot it at a half mile, then I'll concede the animal wins. <- Which is always an acceptable outcome in my book.

Sometimes the smallest details in an interview become the headline. Obviously I don't know if that is the case in this situation or details of the interview, but I have seen it many times. IMO, it was an opportunity missed with the headline. The story lost me on topics such as her custom rifle, distance of the shot and the private land they own. Fun story, could could have been presented better.

My daughter is an excellent shot and has missed only a couple times in a decade of hunting. Only one critter (big bull elk) that she has shot at did not get killed due to her missing. This year we hunted antelope and made a mile long stalk to get in range of a particular buck. It took several hours and even though we were half the distance of her previous antelope, we had to get a lot closer due to the wind. We were in the no click zone and trying to find a position to shoot from when the buck jumped up and gave us the stare down. I set up the tripod and moved aside. She clamped the rifle on, and moved the center post up and shot within a matter of about 10 seconds. The buck bolted. We weren’t sure of the shot but assumed he was hit, so she chambered another round and fired at the buck running full speed at close to 300 yards and missed. She chambered another and I said he’s getting out there and you’re going to have to hold just a touch in front of him. She fired again and it was closer to 400 at that time and she dropped him. When we got to the antelope, we saw the first shot was a perfect double lung, third shot hit him in the hip and knocked him over even though he was already dead on his feet. I know @psinclair has seen her shoot a few times when she was real young and she can shoot a whole lot better now.

The difference is far better explained by individual reporters, than by organization. WyoFile has it's share of news blunders.

Bragging about shot distance is about as g*y as wearing Sitka IMO .

I will say this...My buddies daughter just got into hunting this year. I've enjoyed seeing the photos of a young lady next to a fork and horn deer and a doe antelope with a grin from ear to ear and a walmart special .270 around here shoulder a whole lot more than I enjoyed reading this article. Nothing wrong with either, to each their own.

Here's a one from "back in the day" when we packed in late November with horses and shot these 2 bulls. They slid 200 ft down the mountain and hung up with each other, providing a sweet photo.
