Headed to the Cody area the second week of Oct. to do a do it yourself wolf hunt. Any tips, suggestions, areas to hunt, or tactics. Any info is appreciated

Read Randy's article in the last issue of Bugle. He makes a lot of good suggestions.

Basically, find the elk. No elk, no wolves.

Get a good vantage and glass like heck.

We had some luck howling to locate, then just doing spot and stalk. In october, i'm guessing cow calls will be your best bet to bring one in close. I know of 4 wolves in MT that have been called into bow range just cow calling.

Critter's the expert, do what he says.

Also, keep an eye out for an injunction to stop the hunt. Might happen before Sept. 30th.

We use a "Hoochi Momma Cow Call" - works better than howler.

Talk to the old guy at the Zero Box meat processor in Cody. He seems to know where the wolves are. He lives at the base of Carter Mt, SE of Cody and seems to know a lot about the wolves in the area.
