Unbelievable experience this weekend while elk hunting. I popped over a saddle into a basin we have frequented elk over the years and while standing silent listening for a bugle, I hear some sort of a light growl with chewing sounds off to my left. I glance that way and see an elk rib cage behind a old downed burned log and I see it moving. At less than 20 yds, I creep in a little closer to see what was working on that carcass and then I see a flash of black. First thing that came to mind was a baby wolf but then I thought no way a wolf baby would be that small still and then I get a better glimps, it's a wolverine! Luckily, it had no idea I was there and I was able to get four minutes of video of the little guy scavaging the area...until he came my way and then I had to whoa him. Here is a reduced 2 min clip of my encounter.

Wow, cool video. You made him drop his treat! Probably better than having him climb your leg:)
We ran into a wolverine hunting for vermin on the Idaho/Utah border in 2019, neat animals.

That is awesome. One of the very few critters I have not seen in the wilds of Montana ... yet.

awesome. glad you were able to get video of the encounter.

Wow! That is the coolest hunting video of the year right there. You probably got there too late to see him kick the crap out of 2 bears and a lion to steal the kill LOL

That would be a sight to see! His growl didn't sound too friendly when I spooked him.

Man that is awesome! I’m jealous, such incredible critters.

So cool!!! Great video.

On a completely unrelated note, as a third gen Michigan State Spartan, "...fuq those wolverines!!" 😉
Don’t let Birdbander ruffle your feathers. There are just as many wolverines presently in Michigan as there are Spartans.
