I have zero experience with pistols, but feel I should probably invest in one since I am spending more than half the year on the road and often in very remote areas. At home I have firearms for self defense, but they are not convenient while I am on the road with limited space.

95% of the time it will be stored in the front seat of the pickup up or with me while in the slide in. I guess there may be limited times I will have it with me in the field, but not that important in my decision.

It's just me and a dog for the most part, so not concerned with other people in the tight area if situations require force.

Anyway, any suggestions? I just need something for "just in case" in a situation that will likely never occur. I won't be putting a boxes of ammo every month for enjoyment, just an emergency tool. Not looking for the most expensive, cool pistol on the market, just a dependable self defense weapon.

thanks for any thoughts.....

Glock. 9mm. mtmuley

Glocks are hard to beat.

I bought a 9mm Beretta APX A1 last year from a member on here. It’s been a joy to shoot too.

I’d say go to a gun store, handle a few different 9mm’s and see what fits you in your price point.

I’ve had 3 Glocks. I think my other one is a 17, also a 9mm but bigger holds more rounds easier to shoot, but for what you’re looking for the one in my pic or the newer version of that (43x) is what you want. I also had a 10mm and sold it. Don’t get any double action fancy BS semi.

Go pick some up, probably something will fit and point better than others.
I'll be the contrary opinion, I have larger hands and find the Springfield XD fits and feels better to me. YMMV.

That seems small for a guy like me with big hands. mtmuley

S&W Revolver. Semiautos like Glock with no safety are a bit easier to accidental discharge. Glocks are fine, but you just have to understand the safety aspect of them.

Glock 43 variant if you want small and single stack, Glock 45 variant if you want double stack. I love my red dot and light but if you’re wanting it easy and concealed more easily those things can be skipped

Glock 9mm without a doubt. One of these two is pretty much always with me. G43X and G45. I carried the G45 all last week in some bad grizzly country too.
