Wolf Activist Put $10K BOUNTY on WY Wolf Hunters

I killed a wolf in 2012 in MN when they had their first season. MPR interviewed me when I registered it. A couple of years later I discovered a folder in my Facebook Messenger that I didn’t know existed. It was absolutely full of death threats. Probably pushing 100 of them. It was funny reading them after so much time had passed. I’m glad nobody actually killed me.

In KY, when you kill a deer, turkey, elk, and I think bear, you have to telecheck it. Meaning you call in to an automated service where you enter identifying info, sex of the game harvested, beard length, number of antler points, etc. You get the idea. Anyway, anyone can go on line to Fish and Wildlife’s website and search the data base by name, county of harvest, etc. and see the names of those who’ve killed. Now we don’t usually have folks trying to dox us, so I can see where this would be a problem. Two can play at that game though.

I’m surprised the database is publicly accessible down to identifying individuals who harvested game. Typically that’s scrubbed and only bulk statistics are available to the public.

I'm glad that no one actually killed you too! That said, I have a picture in my mind of the type of hootleheads that would make online threats like that. Probably not that much of a threat.

It's all public information here in Kentucky. Many hunters get caught that way too by posting pictures on social media and not tagging it.

I've been getting death threats from the internet since the early 2000's. The ones who tell you they're gonna git ya are 99.9% the ones who don't have the fortitude to do much of anything but bitch on the computer.

It's the ones who don't say much of anything you have to worry about. Like @mtmuley. He'll just reach out and smack you when you least expect it.

I only had one threat when I posted my wolf on IG. It was a female that appeared to be 5’ and about 85lbs. She was a tough talker though!
Did you offer to let her run her fingers through its fur in your den, and comfort her with the fact that its meat would feed numerous other hungry wild animals?
