If you look at my post history, you will see I joined back when I first got an antelope tag as an adult onset hunter.

I was excited about getting an antelope, had heard they are arguably the best tasting American game animal, and gave myself the username AntelopeEater because I was excited at the prospect of getting n eating one.

The tag I got that year was for a super remote area way up in the upper northwestern corner of Nevada where I had never been before. Some people on this forum, including Randy Newburg gave me some advice which I really appreciated.

Unfortunately, I failed to harvest that year, and I got frustrated and changed my username to DoveEater since I at least got some doves and ate them that year.

Now, yesterday, I drew a Nevada antelope tag for horns shorter than ears antelope in an area of mid-Northern Nevada I have hunted deer before, and I saw plenty of antelope in a legal to hunt area there so I am feeling very optimistic I will be posting pictures of an antelope and an antelope steak dinner this September.

Then, I will change my username back to AntelopeEater, lol.

Hope this season goes better for you. They are excellent table fare if you take proper care of them. I feed it to my wife quite a bit and she doesn’t know.

Shoot to kill on a perfectly calm animal
Keep the meat clean
Get it to ice asap

Basically treat it like all other game meat don’t drive around with it in the back of your truck guts in because they are little and you may be able to drag it out real quick.

Got a tag in my pocket for northeastern Nevada so hopefully it will be on the menu this fall. One of the best game out there if cared for properly

I have a decent chance of still having some meat from last years in the freezer this fall
Ha ha, If I dig deep I’ll bet I have some 2023 lope too. Lots of whitetail on top though so I gotta rearrange better to ensure first in first out.

And if CO elk doesn’t pan out, WY antelope app goes in so I can refresh my supply.

Last one i killed was September of 23 all the meat was gone by the next spring. So it's been about a year sense I've ate any and am looking forward to putting some in the freezer in a couple months. I've eaten over a dozen pronghorn from 4 different states and still never had a bad one.

Should draw a Wyoming tag and hopefully put one in the freezer. Got one at home in NV last year

I grew up hating antelope then I had a buddy tell me to wear gloves and swap out gloves every time you touch the fur so as not to transfer the oils to the meat. It was also relaxed when I shot it. So not sure which was the trick, but it was TASTY!

I find it crazy that so many people supposedly have such distaste for antelope. Of all the game we end up with each fall antelope is always a favorite at the table. Even a battle-worn buck is fine table fare. We’ve done multiple blind tests (though now everyone is good enough to pick it out) between deer, elk, antelope, moose - antelope is nearly always a favorite… maybe I’m just that good a chef???

We’ll be eating “goat” this year, yup…
