What left this trail?

Correct, sir. There would be round tracks from pole baskets @ some points along the sides of the sled tracks, also lines where pole tips dragged. A little further down the rabbit hole; could it be a snowshoer pulling a cargo sled?
Some sledhead fired up a big fatty and took their beater snowmobile out boondocking to catch the first snow fall (and maybe the last if you listen to all the global warming hype) of the year. :)

100% someone ski touring, no sled, probably rocking something with a 110-115 waist.

Thanks, all. An entertaining discussion if not a conclusive one. I think @Hunting Wife may be onto something, a biologist or trapper would have more reason to be crossing over the main trail than someone just sightseeing or a hunter pulling out a deer. How that person got 2 miles from the trailhead without leaving tracks in the snow will remain a mystery.
