What is the wait time going to be for suppressor approval starting 1/1/2026?

My suppressor finally shipped from Unknown Suppressors and is on its way to my SOT. Hopefully it won’t be in jail too long…

Looks like the drop off in apps has finally came. Right before the looming gov shutdown.

Crossing my fingers mine go through (submitted mid month) before Saturday.

I'm here: Notification was acknowledged by the chief law enforcement officer on 1-23-2026 and the mandatory 7-day waiting period started.

*pending ATF approval

I wasn't really paying attention at the time, but did processing halt or wait times increase during the last shutdown? I imagine applications were down due to the upcoming zeroing of the tax, so that could be a factor too...

All I know is I had an in person chat with 2 BATF agents at the SHOT show about form 1 suppressors. Don't let the internet Suppressor manufactures scare you with false claims, they just want you to be scared to make your own if you have the means. Hell the one agent even told me about his personal Maglite and engine freeze plug build. I asked about building a 3D printed one with carbon fiber infused filament for a .22 rimfire. Yep, no problem. Just don't start anything until form 1 approved, and it is free. Main thing he said, don't use anything pre-made and sold as something like 80% baffles, or filter traps and such. If it looks like a suppressor part it is and will probably get your form 1 denied. Got a lathe and some 1" aluminum bar stock? Go ahead and get that form 1 approved and start your .22LR project. Wait times for form one electronic submission is fast, but you will have to pay for that if you use a Kiosk. I have been looking around for ideas for a starting item for a body for a centerfire build and core drill bits look interesting but would be heavy. 1769808265168.png

I just checked the ATF website. It updated recently for approvals in January 2026.

I submitted a paper Form 1.

Mailed January 8
(Should have gotten there by the 13th or so)
Called and confirmed receipt on January 21.

Looks like 38 days average for paper form 1, so i should be close.

Looks like I'm below the curve. I'm assuming they are talking calendar days and not business days. I'm at 21 calendar days since the form was officially submitted for my Form 4 Trust. Was hoping to get it this week but looking iffy unless it comes through pretty soon.

I work part time at one the local sporting goods stores for some hunting money, and my experience behind the counter seems like most people have about a 10 day turnaround from start to finish. Which makes it kinda tempting to finally buy my first.
