What is a wolf lover?

I would take wolves over yuppies any day of the week.....Does that make me a wolf lover? Or just anti-social....:D

An EO? So, it's Obama's fault.

I suppose mtmiller is right about the timing, so that would make it the Gipper who piloted the pen on the executive order. Our current president, in 1986, hadn't entered Harvard Law school yet.

Exactly! Just shy of 120 pounds. It's a dang big wolf. Even with a belly full of meat, a giant like this one still wouldn't get to 150 pounds. That was my point.

These two put the smack down on wolves. This one is a great trophy. Perfect hide. The others have been riddled with mange. Consummate sportsmen. Should hold some trapping clinics for wolves.

Give them my congrats. I have a lot of respect for guys that consistently kill them. mtmuley

I'm not anti livestock, I'm pro elk. I think 1.23$ per AUM is ridiculous. Does that make me anti livestock?

You aren't here anymore just a lurker, I don't see you discussing anything with anyone. Your non existent and a non factor.;)

Buck 35 per AUM is sweet deal. What would be an acceptable rate for you, Shoot's?

If the Legislature has it's way, you'll be paying state rates instead of fed. They want to transfer federal public land over to the state.

Say hello to $5.00/AUM statewide.

What are the odds of that, Ben? Buck 35 sounds pretty safe to me..........unless Obama get's out his pen. :D

odds are 20:1 against.

$1.35 per AUM is money loser for the Fed. It doesn't cover the cost of managing the leases let alone trying to get any revenue for the general fund.

Have you brought that up with Tester, Ben? Max? Where are they on this? What's an acceptable rate for you?

I generally don't get into grazing fees. I view $1.35 as a cheap rate to be sure, but I also view it like we do CRP. It's an investment in maintaining good winter habitat on private ground and, for the most part, producers do an adequate to good job in sharing the resource (grass). I'd prefer to see it raised to maybe $2.00 but I doubt that would happen.

Remember, I'm a socialist hippy wolf lover, so I don't mind it when people utilize the Gov't to sustain good things.

Pretty expansive view of things Ben. I bet most who clamor for an end to grazing public lands would disagree with your view.

Montana Trust Land, Grazing Lease Rate Valuation Analysis - the last updated information in 2013 showed the Montana private grazing fee at $23.60 an AUM for a cow-calf pair. Thats a hell of a difference from BLM/FS's $1.35. I dug into all this last spring.

In 2012, the Congressional Research Service did a report - Grazing Fees: Overview and Issues. This reports helps to give an overview of the situation and some attempts to rectify it. I am trying to find the report I had, that shows the costs of maintaining these lands and the fact that we dont even come close to recouping administration and maintenance expenses with these low fees. For example, pg 5 of the overview states -
BLM and the FS typically spend far more managing their grazing programs than they collect in grazing fees. For example, the GAO determined that in FY2004, the agencies spent about $132.5 million on grazing management, comprised of $58.3 million for the BLM and $74.2 million for the FS. These figures include expenditures for direct costs, such as managing permits, as well as indirect costs, such as personnel. The agencies collected $17.5 million, comprised of $11.8 million in BLM receipts and $5.7 million in FS receipts.

Costs $132,500,000 - fee income $17,500,000 = $115,000,000 annual loss
That is not responsible Public Trust stewardship management, that is socialized agriculture - the costs and losses are being socialized, except the profits are being privatized.

WADR, you wouldn't want unsubsidized ag. $8 for a gallon of milk is outside the reach of most folks.
