Anyone else see the use of drones when hunting as much like using Forward Facing Sonar when fishing? Thankfully, many if not most state wildlife agencies got ahead of the curve and made it illegal to use drones when hunting wild game.

Some states allow search for recovery with IR drones. Requires certification etc with restrictions.

WI last year put it up for discussion to ban certain sonar when fishing and it didn't last long before it was shot down. Really hope it gets back on the table. I'm shocked that MN hasn't banned it yet, they have way too good of fishing at stake

Technology and Fair Chase can be a slippery slope.

Sometimes a good shot just goes bad. There are lots of oh no's even at the best situations. IMO, there is a fine line to use whatever resource to recover an animal versus using a resource to hunt an animal. Wildlife laws govern what can be used under certain circumstances. I don't have any problem with a hunter using any resource in compliance.

I may not agree with the use personally but this is where Fair Chase and personal opinion clashes with legal requirements. There are going to be a lot more of these Fair Chase technology issues. Heck, ozone use to control odor on stand is popping up as Fair Chase discussion. Rangefinder BT connectivity to optics is being restricted in some states.

Don't think there's any fixing the efficacy of archery tackle. It'll never be a rifle.
Forky never said archery. We now have hunters shooting farther than their experience, equipment, environmental conditions and overall knowledge of the game their hunting. Its not a video game but many do not put the time, effort, expense to learn to shoot effectively to a set distance. Not everyone has the experience and equipment to shoot the distances they think they can. Archery or firearm.

Drones and big game don't mix well. Ive heard all kinds of things ranging from drone recovery of animals to scouting, to just getting real-time satellite imagery from a drone. All of which will undoubtedly lead to higher harvest rates. Any average dude can get a decent drone for $500 now too.

It was compared to FFS and fishing, but they're wildly different.

In both cases, technology is being used to greatly reduce the allusiveness of the animal or fish and its ability to avoid detection.

Drones are like atv's to hunting, they suck and will ruin everything. because so many people believe rules don't apply to them.

Once the season opens, the only time my ATV comes out is when there is meat on the ground. And during other times of the year, it only comes out when there is a need to transport something that cannot be easily carried by hand.

I'm a firm believer in "the more you walk to more you see".

I think the biggest difference is that people don't see the scarcity with fish the way they do with big game. The feeling is everyone catching more fish doesn't hurt anyone, but everyone killing more elk leaves fewer elk for everyone else.
Not true, but that's okay. Everyone keeping limits affects everyone else. Not to the degree that big game does, but it has an effect!

I think it is a little different. People are very visual. If someone’s out in a boat or on a dock, and don’t have a sonar, “the fish might just not be biting.”

How many of you have watched drones really work, or watched the drone racing? They’re next level. They can be small, relatively quiet, highly maneuverable, and have ultra-clear cameras. It’s crazy what a great pilot can do with a headset on.

The closest comparison is a helicopter, and it would have to be a stealth copter.

They shouldnt. Lots of meat wasted is sad. But the way to not waste meat is not to be irresponsible and learn from it when you are.
So instead of utilizing meat and the animal it should go to waste? 👌 BRILLIANT

So technology only good when it suits your lazy ass needs...got it 👌.

I own neither and can see the benefits of both. I just find it funny peoples views on the subjects
