Moving to Washington state, hunting and fishing expectations?

Yep. Fine with it. You have to collect taxes somehow. Stuff costs money.

Looked into it believe me. Not a thing here 😢
Well, shit. The Sound is/can be a ton of fun for fishing. Full shrimp pots, plenty of crab, and some more salmon than you think...

As for deer, if you love whitetail, the eastside, as close as you can get to the Idaho state line, is pretty great, from Spokane headed north. Find some NF or Timber Co. land in that region, and step into the woods.

Grew up clamming for them in Alaska, never thought I'd clam again after that accessible population was essentially decimated ten years ago...

But yup, all clams are dead!

I didn't think it was possible, but I'm getting more and more excited for the move.

Real talk though. How big of a boat do you need to feel safe out in the big ocean? Or is it more of a reliability deal more than anything?
Can’t speak from personal experience but I know of some YouTubers who fish the big ocean in kayaks. I fish the Puget sound in a hobie outback without issue. You have to select your days but in the summer and fall it’s typically not too rough out there, even with the cruise ships and tankers!

Well my butt will need more than a kayak! Never been a fan of their tippiness...

@SD_Prairie_Goat if you're serious about a big boat, you might want to shop around your current neck of the woods (or somewhere along your route) and compare prices to Seattle. I bet you save a small fortune towing one up here as opposed to trying to buy one up here already.

That crazy out there? I have a feeling its going to be slim pickings on ocean worthy vessels in SD here, but worthwhile looking.

That being said, I plan on buying an older boat is what I'm thinking. Money is going primarily for a house, so fancy boat isn't likely...

You mentioned "the Seattle area". Do you know exactly where you want to live?

I'm sure you've looked at home prices here but if you haven't, they are a bit of a shock.
Well I can tell you I'm not buying a house in Bellevue.... 😂

But ya, housing is expensive everywhere compared to South Dakota, so I'm prepared for it.
