What are you thankful for?

Every day I start out with a devotional from my friend over at COFA. I'M so Bless to have Mike as a Brother in the Lord
I hope I'm not overstepping rules here.

A Thanksgiving Blessing

This is the day the LORD has made. We will rejoice and be glad in it. (Psalm 118:24, NLT)

In every season of our life, we’re tempted to focus on our present burdens and miss the blessings. We love it when we receive the blessing—the promotion, the new house, the baby—but with the blessing comes new burdens—responsibilities, payments, cares. Rather than enjoy where we are on the way to where we’re going, we get so caught up in the challenges that we miss the beauty of this moment. You could be in one of the best seasons of your life, but you don’t realize it because you’re focused on the struggles, on what you don’t like, on what’s taking so long.

At some point you have to put your foot down and say, “This is the day the Lord has made, and I will not allow my burdens to steal my enjoyment of my blessings.” Change your perspective. Shift your focus from the burden to the blessing, from what’s wrong to what’s right, from what you don’t have to what you have. Make the most of every day.

A Prayer for Today

“Father, thank You for this day and for this season of my life. Thank You for every blessing You’ve given me, and thank You for the burden and responsibilities that have come with them. Help me to make the most of every day by focusing on Your goodness. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”

Plenty to be thankful for here. A healthy baby boy, my wife received two pay raises this year, I found some reliable work as a welder so we can work towards planting a church, elk meat in the freezer, first semester of teaching undergrad theology under my belt, and plenty more.

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ,
— Ephesians 1:3

I am thankful for God’s provision through all my life. In spite of heartaches, stresses, and in-the-moment complications that could grind a man down if I focused on them.

As I grow older, I think more of Thanksgiving as a time of remembrance of faithfulness in times past and expectation of God’s faithfulness in the future.

In the present, I am thankful for a patient wife. My thriving children and a beautiful little granddaughter. A warm home, a good job and a 14lb turkey starting to cook on the grill.

I am also thankful for this Hunttalk community that has provided me so much entertainment and information, as well as friendships over the past 12 years.

So thankful for God and what he does for us! My amazing family, and living in a state that has plenty of big game species to hunt and one of the most important ones being able to chase big muley bucks in January with a bow. So thankful for God's creation and how beautiful and marvelous it is. So much a person could say and pry still not cover it all. We are blessed!
