Waterfowl Decoy Question

Went out this morning with 10 decoys (4 hens and 6 drakes) and set them up in an almost circle about 20 yards from us. We watched some coots come in and land on the other end of the pond with no interest in our set. Is this because the decoys are mallards? Is a V formation best? too close to us?? Any advice would be appreciated, ill post a picture that sort of shows the set.

How I set up is decoys on both sides with a hole in the middle, with same species together. They are all different distance apart, sometimes I even put some on dry ground. I usually put one out to how far I feel comfortable shooting, as judge of distance. I will say that if the water was still with the decoys on it that will flare ducks. A cheap easy way to fix that is a Jerk string or quiver magnet. Or sometimes the birds just want to be somewhere else?

Keep trying different sets watching ducks and
Add a few pintails or grab a mojo teal!

I like the pintail decoy comment. We don't see a lot of pintail here but it gives the spread some realism.
I use my older decoys early in the year then I break out the new shiny edecoys once they get better color as the season progresses. Taking my boys out tomorrow, I hope we can get them some shooting. Good luck to you this season.
