Unreal.

“Something felt off when I walked in,” Roberg recalls. “Racks to the ceiling around a single chair as the focal point—a spot for someone to sit and get turned on by antlers.”

"Listening to him and observing his satisfaction, I suspected there was much more going on. He was getting turned on by looking at the antlers and reliving the moment."

This guy is like the Gary Ridgway of poachers. Forget jail, put this dude in the nut house.

You suppose this is the same guy???? I see hes not licensed in IA!

What a bazar story. I have no doubt that a TON of big bucks are poached with suppressors and thermal every single year.

I knew a guy about my age who got busted for shooting 9 bucks in one season with his bow in PA back in the early 2000's.
I seen him at a party and I asked him why he did what he did. He told me that it was a straight up addiction and that's all he could say. He said he just loved shooting deer and he couldn't stop. It was strange to hear him say that.
To be honest, he seemed like a freaking serial killer to me.

I have no idea what ever happened to the guy.

... and stories like this are just the greedy or unlucky poachers who get caught.

I can't imagine how many aren't getting caught. With growing hunter numbers, the rush and thrill to fill a tag and post about it, and lack of conservation officers all around, I can't imagine how many animals are "stolen" from law abiding hunters and the resulting strain poaching has on herds...

We had a guy like this in town when I was growing up. During the season we would be driving back home out of the woods in the dark and he would be headed in. I distinctly remember the light blue truck and he always had a spotlight in the passenger seat whenever I saw it in town. Everybody in town knew what he was doing. He did finally get caught, no idea what his repercussions were.

Been happening long before the thermal and the suppresors. Majority never get caught.
Thermal and suppressors are making it pretty easy to take it to the next level. Technology trends are not our friend. Makes big bucks taken legally even that much cooler I guess.

I've met a couple dudes who were like that about racks with the prizing and storytelling. The difference was they lived where you could kill so many legally that it wasn't notable. If you remove that game warden to where they were, he'd be the one known as the weirdo.

The USA is a big country. People within it are often very different.

The next problem that will make poaching easier is drones. Drone strikes like a drone with a firearm attached would be almost silent. With thermal cameras/sights it will be all to easy to down plenty of game. We’d have to catch them getting the game out
