Had a pretty cool hunt with my 85 yr old pops this morning. He hasn't hunted birds or really anything for the last several years but bought a tag this spring and said he wanted to go.
I picked him up at 6:00 this morning because he didn't want to wake up any earlier which was fine by me. We parked the truck, and he did his best to shuffle down an old logging road for a couple hundred yards in his Carhart cammo to a spot we hoped to call from.
I got a response with my box call from about a quarter mile away and we spent the next 2 hours sitting with me calling off and on before I could coax this Tom into range. The little 410 and some #9's did the rest.
We had a brief celebration and I was able to get a few pics. He wanted to carry the bird back to the truck himself so out of necessity, and to keep him from falling, he borrowed my vest and was able to shuffle back to the truck with his prize.
I hope it's not his last hunt but if so he definitely was a happy soul this morning.
