Turkeys

Look at the size of a turkeys head as related to the contents inside…..don’t lose any sleep over it. Get back out there and smack one

An hour of long distance come-hither calling led to me being pretty sure the strutters were going around me, which prompted me to attempt to relocate and consequently get busted, resulting in panicked emergency decoy deployment, eliciting unexpected aerial maneuvers by two gobblers right into my lap.

What a cluster. 😅 Damn that is fun!

Badlands?

Bust of a day in NW NE. Didn’t see or hear a turkey today. Gonna Need some luck tomorrow morning if it’s gonna happen.
Well, NE won. Heard a few gobbles this morning but never saw a bird. Headed back to NW CO now. Father and son I ran into killed one this morning that they roosted last night right off the road next to the parking area. Next year, spring bear.

Wisconsin turkey camp is in full swing. Part of my bird from Saturday was just used as fuel for my Fort McCoy hunt that starts tomorrow. As much as I poke fun at Wisconsin, the driftless area is gorgeous. It’s become one of my favorite spots. I got a bunch of maple syrup from an Amish house that would’ve cost me 4x more in northern Minnesota.

Went out first time this morning. Figured I woke up an hour too late as it was starting to get light already. Piss poor planning---

Last day of the season yesterday. Spent the night in the back of my SUV on our farmland lease and hunted the evening. Sat and called, then heard a crazy hen on the other side of the 40 foot tall hedge. Thought it must be another club member calling back at me, right up to point where she burst through the hedgerow and landed a few yards away. Great experience.

Haven't seen a Tom here all year (only Jakes), but this morning as I left the property a big Tom ran across the hay field next to the one I hunted last night. He must own a calendar.

Peaceful night in a beautiful place.
