Turkeys - lets see em

2 for 2 on 2019 public land gobblers!

This bird spotted my jake decoy from about 150 yards out and came in on a string with a hen in tow. He attacked the decoy, but I could see his head the whole time so I didn't dare move. He eventually went into full strut facing away from me at 20 yards. When I lifted the gun the hen saw me, then he broke strut and instantly died. I felt like a little kid on Christmas morning. Found 4 BBs in his chest and thigh where another hunter injured him earlier this year.

A nice medium-small bird about 22.5# I think he was a 2 yr old. Someone shot him before I did - I think last year maybe.

I used a box call I built myself, which is always special - at least to me.

Nebraska was a slog and the weather wasn’t exactly ideal this weekend, but I was able to give one tattered jake the business on my last day.

Got a Hunts for Heroes vet on his 1st longbeard last Saturday (his 1st-ever Arizona big game animal!). One more turkey hunt w/ another veteran this weekend. #HealingThroughHunting #SmilesForMiles

Got out before work, up at 3:30, hour and change drive, before I even set up he was gobbling every minute on the minute. Came in behind a hen and the old 870 (my dads first pump) w/ standard barrel full choke, and 2-3/4" turkey loads(only chambers 2-3/4") dropped em in his tracks. I hope you enjoy my spray paint camo job I did to it as a teenager, with my dads approval of course.

My boy’s Montana turkey. He came in after 15 minutes of calling and one gobble. Shot him midday, and was great eating.

Pagosa: You guys got eastern's up that way? Cool, I didn't know that, I've been enjoying chasing the Merriams so much the last few years down this way.

Got my first turk yesterday! Small Jake, but I only have two and a half days to hunt in Maine this year before I head back to NY. Called in a big mature Tom but couldn’t get a shot at him this morning.

Another guy out of our camp filled two tags with one shot at a couple 20+lb toms (2nd pic).

One more morning to hopefully fill my second tag!
