He killed this one on a depredation hunt in Florida on Saturday morning. He was using a Savage 110 in 7mm-08, and dropped it with a high shoulder shot.

Good looking doe.
I used to hunt the Hampton, SC area about 20 years ago. Are the bucks getting any bigger? We always saw alot but back then everybody shot any legal buck that they saw.

Our season in Game Zone Six of SC, is from August 15 to Jan 1, any type of weapon, all season. The portion of Florida where Travis killed this deer, had their season end Sunday, the 20th. So we were there for the last weekend. Parts of the Panhandle don't end 'til sometime in Feb.

Florida Boy, most of us practice QDM in some way or another these days, but it's very difficult to limit what we kill when hunting deer with dogs down in our swamps. Since you've hunted here, you know what these swamps can be like, and should know what I mean. BTW, did you hunt with Bostic Plantation, or a private club? Twenty years ago, we didn't have doe tags and antlerless days like we have these days. Back then you had to own quite a bit of property and have a heavy doe population in order to get landowner doe tags. Now, every licensed hunter can purchase 4 tags per year, on top of the 13 "doe days" that are available. If property is enrolled in the quota program, the landowner can still get landowner tags as well.

I hunted up there about 8 years in a row, different clubs. One club I think I was in 4 years, it was around Garnett. But hunted around Varnville, Ridgeland, Walterboro. We used to get some doe tags and you couldn't shoot does until after Oct. But the property me and a buddy leased by ourselves which was close to Hampton, we got 6 doe tags for!! We couldn't figure that out since all the clubs we had been there were never enough tags for all the members and the Garnett area was over loaded with does and the biologist would only issue us about 8-9 tags. I hunted the Savanah River Site a couple of times and killed a the biggest buck I ever killed there.

FB, I've hunted all of the same areas with the exception of SRS. Also, lived and hunted up around Santee and Elloree area. I remember back in the old days when it was considered taboo to kill a doe, and my own place didn't have a single deer on it. Now I kill at least three or four deer every year within a few hundred yards of my house, and usually kill more does per year than bucks, other than cull bucks.
