The official 2025 Wyoming elk hunt for Dave N thread.

Weather is getting ready to change. Weekend is supposed to be nice. Don’t throw in the towel just yet
We are not, but our plan needs adjusting. It’s beautiful 1000’ down here by the cabin. Where the elk are it is sunshine. Just can’t see them up from the bottom. We have gone up that way twice and it just doesn’t work. You need to be able to look down into it from the top and drop in on them. Without that you’re kinda flying blind bumbling around. I could go in there and try the top timber but the likely outcome is that I just blow them out. They tend to flee up the face where you can’t see. Right now no one is messing with them besides us so they will just stay in that timber/aspen thicket.

Reality is Dave won’t be dropping down. His only play would be to be on the escapade route after I bail off.

Is there a place he could pay a reasonable access fee to shoot a cow ? I dunno just throwing out ideas . Hope he gets a chance .

There seems to be a whole lotta hang out time at the cabin and big meals. Sounds more like a retreat than an elk hunt. I want more sun up to sun down in the field suffering!

Sounds like you all are having a good time though! Good luck!
I agree. Even if you head back to the truck to warm up, or just to escape the wind, stay on the mountain. No need to go back to a cabin. Cruise around midday if you have to, take a nap in the seat while looking over a meadow or creek bottom, even if it's a low likelihood, it's still better than at the cabin. I've shot a buck at 2 in the afternoon in the middle of a snowstorm when it casually walked by my truck as I was trying to get warm. Low-probability encounters happen, just give it time.

Here’s a wild idea that might work and will definitely cause some reaction. Deer drive. First Dave can be placed within or close to the expected escape route sometime after sunup. Then a group snowshoes into the thicket. It’s scorched earth tactics because these elk will blow out in the foreseeable future once you guys try this, but hey, sounds like this spot is going to be dropped anyhow.

I think Dave's knee would be able to handle running to "cut a big bull off at the pass" if his boiler room was filled with good Italian grub. If he did not take some to camp someone needs to talk with the camp cook. Or possibly take him to town to an Italian "Scarf and Barf" ?

My hats off to Dave, he does not drink alcohol! So the camp won't go broke buying him beer. LOL

Now feed a bull a chunk of lead my friend.

You got this Dave, slow and steady.
