The official 2025 Wyoming elk hunt for Dave N thread.

Here’s a wild idea that might work and will definitely cause some reaction. Deer drive. First Dave can be placed within or close to the expected escape route sometime after sunup. Then a group snowshoes into the thicket. It’s scorched earth tactics because these elk will blow out in the foreseeable future once you guys try this, but hey, sounds like this spot is going to be dropped anyhow.
In didn’t see your post till now. But we did try a drive this afternoon. It was a death march for me and an audition for Frozen 3 for Dave and Greg. 30mph sustained wind about killed them. 4 miles of insane hill climb about killed me.

End results were we all have inny’s now from the cold and a few mule deer and moose were seen. This is tough country and just too big to be successful with only 3 people. Pics don’t do the steepness justice.

Some random photos from today. Middle of nowhere on the face, this bench and water seep appeared. Elk all over it, @seeth07 you could bow hunt this if you could stand the wind.

Next is someone who didn’t have TP years ago and made a sacrifice.

Next is region G teaser bucks hanging out by the cabin. IMG_4532.jpegIMG_4533.jpegIMG_4542.jpeg

Had to cut my time on this hunt short with some family needs. I was able to get my truck cleaned up. This is the mud that came off it, at least what didn't wash away down the gutter. Little gift from Wyoming.

You left before I could say take some cookies home with you! Thanks again for everything you did for me and it was great hanging out for a while.

@ccc23454 sounds like we need to take Dave elk hunting. I think there may be a spot your way with elk that can be shot from the SxS. At least glassed and seen! Then it is just a matter of whether your not your dumb enough to chase after em.

@Wildabeest that little floof has grown into a giant! Pretty sure I have a puppy pic of him somewhere.

Does he pack out quarters? 😁
Yeah, he’s a whopping 125 lbs now!

This was his first hunt camp when he was just over 3 months old. Notice the blood on his face from helping me break down my antelope.

This was on the way to his second hunt camp - MN North Shore grouse camp - a few weeks later.

They were originally bred to be draft dogs - hauling carts full of milk on dairy farms in the Swiss Alps. So I did give some serious thought to hitching a wagon or sled to him in the backcountry!
