We are not, but our plan needs adjusting. It’s beautiful 1000’ down here by the cabin. Where the elk are it is sunshine. Just can’t see them up from the bottom. We have gone up that way twice and it just doesn’t work. You need to be able to look down into it from the top and drop in on them. Without that you’re kinda flying blind bumbling around. I could go in there and try the top timber but the likely outcome is that I just blow them out. They tend to flee up the face where you can’t see. Right now no one is messing with them besides us so they will just stay in that timber/aspen thicket.Weather is getting ready to change. Weekend is supposed to be nice. Don’t throw in the towel just yet
Depends, the schedule is very fluid. How long are you guys out there? I start hunting tomorrow. I could share anything I find if its easy going.
Agreed, sometimes a pizza and a beer in town can rejuvenate the focus.I’m detecting bad juju setting in from the tough weather. We’ve all been there.
Don’t throw the towel in too soon, I’ve done that and regretted it. A nice clear day can change the game.
I agree. Even if you head back to the truck to warm up, or just to escape the wind, stay on the mountain. No need to go back to a cabin. Cruise around midday if you have to, take a nap in the seat while looking over a meadow or creek bottom, even if it's a low likelihood, it's still better than at the cabin. I've shot a buck at 2 in the afternoon in the middle of a snowstorm when it casually walked by my truck as I was trying to get warm. Low-probability encounters happen, just give it time. There seems to be a whole lotta hang out time at the cabin and big meals. Sounds more like a retreat than an elk hunt. I want more sun up to sun down in the field suffering!
Sounds like you all are having a good time though! Good luck!
Which one hurts: left knee, right knee or weenie?A new knee would be nice!![]()
