Well, this past weekend was it for the youth deer season here in ND. If the kid didn't fill his tag by Sunday evening, he was going to have to wait until the regular deer season and hunt with all the rest of us. He does't have to worry about that. :)

On Friday evening he had a chance after football practice to get in a hour or so of hunting right at prime time. His choice, chasing tail at some party. Dad was not impressed but it wasn't my tag going to waste.

Saturday morning he had to march in the fall parade so missed out on the morning hunt too. The clock is ticking.

After the parade is done, dinner eaten, and homework finished we headed out to see if we could locate a buck to his liking. Long story short, we did and he made a great 189 yard shot on it using his mom's 7mm-08 Sako rifle. He has now taken 3 deer with that rifle with 3 shots and I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't try arm-wrestling my wife for her for the gun.

We were hunting in some fairly rugged county and were back in a ways so it made for a late night. He shot the buck at 7 pm and by the time we got back to the pickup with the last load it was 9:45 pm. I am here to tell you that a backpack containing the tenderloins, backstraps, and both hind quarters is fairly heavy, especially for somebody who is as out of shape as I am.

Way to go son!

Way to Go!

Congrats to the young man! Hope to see pics soon also :)
I am so glad to see so many states having youth seasons before the adult seasons. They are the ones that we need to teach & who will be standing up for all of our hunting rights when we are old(er)... Good Job DAD!

Sorry about that but thought I was posting the pictures here. I'm not real tech-savy and did the same thing I have always done before but for some reason the pictures are showing up. Anyone able to tell me what I am doing wrong??? I'm at a loss.

from here click on the "go advanced" button on the bottom, when the new window opens look for the paper clip looking thing, that will be your attachments button. click that, hit browse then you can upload your pictures from your computer

It looks a bit like the Cannonball River country. I hunted there when I was a youngster. My great-grandparents homesteaded in southwestern North Dakota in 1901.

In any case, congratulations on a fine buck, young man!
