"Super Range"

You would think a state that supposedly values open spaced public-lands and the associated outdoor recreation on those lands would not take kindly to this announcement and would seem to be fodder for Forstag and Bodnar?
Based on this thread, nobody knows what it means and won't for a long time.

It doesn't sound like a win for conservation or public lands to me though . . .

All I was saying is if Trump can make these empty "promises" I would think opponents could use those to their advantage quite easily with the voters of Montana.

Yakima training center in Washington is about 327,000 acres, established 1941. Still a lot of bitterness with the locals over the eminent domain actions to establish it.

It hosts 1 of the 2 remaining populations of greater sage-grouse in WA, although the population isn't exactly thriving. They start a lot of fires that sometimes burn off range, not great for sage-grouse.

They used to allow some access for mule deer and elk, upland game birds, but google says they have suspended recreational access due to budget/staffing cuts.

Are you guys getting your $5000 checks yet or all that Doge and Tariff money? I wouldnt worry about getting the super bases or the 5k. We are basically broke as a nation and the creditors will be calling. Its not just Trump, but Obiden, Osama Obama, and Bush drove us off the cliff with money printing.

I think they do limited testing with hypersonics in Malstrom (Lewistown) already. Sept of 2024 I seen 2-3 missle types go across from one horizon to the next in a matter of seconds by Canyon Ferry (est to be 20-70k feet above ground level) about 10 pm. They looked to be several miles apart and the three "missles" were flying the same trajectory, direction, and in a right triangle formation (like fighters), but very high and super fast. It was either missles or a ufo. The went over the Big Belts to the Elkhorns in about 2 sec.

They do all types of low-high altitude testing with the B-1 lancers in western SD, NE WY, and SE MT. Probably the same going on all over with weapons testing that we arent aware of.

Certainly not, as it requires remote locations which are usually wildlife habitat.
Not well known by most, the US Air Force Low Level Bombing Flight Training Area has encompassed a large block of central and eastern Montana, including the Breaks. Likely the same area(s) would be considered for such research and training ... with huge adverse impacts to conservation and wildlife habitat.

Note: Once while flying a Montana Army Guard OH-58 (Bell Jet Ranger) copter from Plentywood enroute to refuel at Lewistown, we observed a huge shadow of an aircraft and began looking up and out to locate the big bird. We were at 1500 ft AGL and suddenly spotted the B-52 bomber flying low level BELOW us! Reports from farmers being "buzzed" by the big birds as they worked fields were common.

All hat, no cattle. Have champagne on ice. Mortality and obesity go together like bacon and eggs. Tick tock, let the market manipulations stop.

History will not be kind as this era is seen in the rear view mirror. The pile of blanket, wide-spread Presidential Pardons which will be issued to family and cronies but jail may still happen because pardons do not erase state-level transgressions. Fun fact about pardons. Can be issued, not reported, stuffed in a desk drawer and are valid so the result is those pardons are in place now. A nice gig if you can get it and then get pardoned after feathering your bed with generational wealth.

Yes, proving grounds exist and no need to create a new one. All hat, no cattle.
Amen. This has been like the worst hangover that won't go away. Add in Trump fully being Putin's meat puppet, and who knows, maybe a Russian military testing ground in MT?
