My cousins got 3 so far. Farm north of them got 26 last year. They all like to blame the wolves (dont get me wrong they need a season as well) but I wonder how much damage has been done since switching to discbines....First cutting alfalfa always makes me nervous

It’s impossible. In a little 20 acre patch of alfalfa, I kicked up 2 different ones and ate one with the discbine. It’s a timing thing. When our alfalfa is at optimal bloom, it always times out with does dropping fawns. The best thing for saving fawns is a rainy forecast. If it gets wet and first cutting gets pushed back a week or so, a lot of fawns get born and get their legs underneath them and can react instead of ending up in a windrow. My cousins got 3 so far. That doesn’t look like red dirt Oklahoma
For sure. I feel like maybe not as many but to be the devils advocate at least they didnt feel anything with the discbine. The haybine could be a gut wrenching experience at times. Also, discbines don’t help out any, but I can remember running lots of fawns through the old sickle drive haybines as well.
It’s happened to me many times over the years. It never gets easier. I always feel like the worlds biggest POS when it happens. For sure.
