Wait like a red Angus calf? Or am I seeing spots ?Went out exploring on Veteran's Day with my son and grandson and found this calf. Seems very late in the year for a new calf. Hopefully he beats the odds of getting through this winter.

You are seeing the spots of an elk calf. I've seen calves in the fall that were definitely small running with the herd, but never anything even close to as small as this calf.Wait like a red Angus calf? Or am I seeing spots ?
That spike running with the cows all winter probably couldn’t believe his luck when he found the late late late cycle cow…You are seeing the spots of an elk calf. I've seen calves in the fall that were definitely small running with the herd, but never anything even close to as small as this calf.

There are much more knowledgable guys on here than me, but I'd say approaching 5 months late of 'normal.'That's what i tho, that's crazy. Like 3 months late you figure?

My grandson, 8 years old, said he'd bottle feed it, but I told him it was best to leave it with the cow and hope for a miracle.Doesn't look good for him/her. Mother nature can be pretty crude.

It’s been a long night. Did 4 hinds and a front last night and another hind this am. One hind to go.
No, found that just inside the hind 1/4 by the pecker from a frontal shot from my buck. The petals did their job and destroyed the insides. Didn’t lose an oz of meat from the shot and the buck didn’t make it 5 feet.Find any petals? mtmuley
