Sunday Pic of the Day

An amusing one. While Mule deer hunting along the California, Nevada border i came on a dwelling dug into the side of a juniper ridge the entrance was well hidden and the shelter was well camouflaged, whole place hidden and ancient. Inside, still some broken, parse furnishing. I accidentally noticed the back wall a bit strange, so i poked at it. Mystery solved, behind the fake wall was a whiskey still, long abandoned. Probation must have come to an end.

Today I decided to go back for a walk to the area that I last hunted 37 years ago and killed a buck. I haven't been there since. This location is the solid western edge of the American Beech Tree in the UP. I heard recently that a disease has pretty much ruined the Beech Trees in this area. I went for a 3 plus mile walk into where I used to sit on a stump and killed the buck. The logging that has been done is big and heavy trying to control the disease and harvest the timber while it still has some value. The strange thing during this walk was that I did not see a deer until I got to within 80 yards from the spot that I killed the buck the last time I was there. There must be something about that location!
