Strange things happen if you hunt long enough. Two of my best came hunting with my wife. Story 1 was hunting mule deer with my wife in tall sage brush. We spotted 4 bucks walking along a ridge that angled toward us. We set up so we could get her an easy shot as they passed below us. After sitting wondering what had happened to them, I told her to peak up over the brush and try and figure out were they went. When she leaned up and peaked a mule deer buck looked over the other side. Their noses had to be only inches from each other. She let out a shriek that would have matched any horror movie. That buck turned and ran as hard as any buck in the history of terrified critters in history. Amazingly one of the other 3 bucks was standing within range and she put him on the ground.

The second story was when I took her on her first elk hunt. I had scouted an area and found a trail that had a great trail back in the timber. I had a tree stump she could sit on about 30 yards off the trail with a clear opening for a shot. After making sure she was comfortable and sure she could make a clean shot, I got up and made a move to see if I could move some elk down the trail. After moving about 300 yards to her left, I hear a shot. I hustled back to her spot and she looks at me like what, me heck I did not fire a round. So I take off and maybe make it 75 yards and I hear another blast and I know it was her. I get to her and her eyes are the size of dinner plates and the tears are rolling down her cheeks. She is standing one step back from the stump she was sitting on, and pointing at the ground. She can not speak and just points and I see elk tracks going over the stump she was sitting on. After holding her and letting her know it will be OK she finally is able to tell me that she heard something and got off the stump and here came a cow and calf elk and the both went right over the sump. She tried to get it in her scope but could only she hair. She never wanted to be left like that again. She kept saying they are big really big again and again.

I found a strange rifle in my safe a while back. Last time I looked, it was still there. I thought about asking my wife about it, but I decided she would just get upset thinking that someone was sneaking around our house. If it is still there the next time I look, I will probably have to get a scope to keep it company.

I could literally write a book on funny things that have happened when hunting, camping, exploring other parts of the world.

I mentioned one in my original Amazon River thread, unfortunately some felt it was too much, so I deleted it, but shared it with a coupe of fellows via pm

I also mentioned in one of the threads here about a friend (woman ) who kept missing when dove hunting and got so frustrated she threw her shotgun at them.

I will share one of many funny "Africa" stories with you. We were hunting with another couple ( man and wife ) and she wanted to wash up before dinner. It was determined that it was safe to wash up in a shallow part of the river. A few minutes later she came running toward camp with nothing on but her boots, screaming her husbands name, with a female hippo chasing her. The hippo wasn't actually that close to her and she ( the hippo ) turned and retreated back to the river on her own, but everyone, even the lady who was being chased, had a good laugh about it.

Their was another thread here about Randy eating the testicles of some wild animal. On the farm each year, we always had rocky mountain oysters every year. But the look and reactions of some , women and men, when we were in various camp site's and told them they were eating moose nose or testicles from a game animal. Some spit it out, some threw up, some needed a drink of scotch, but their reactions were varied and funny.

Not a hunting tail but on my daughters 3rd birthday I took her fishing so mom could get the cake and dinner ready. We are trout fishing in a small lake just a few miles from the house. It was a nice day for April and the fish had closed mouths but she finally gets a bite and starts reeling in her rainbow. When it gets close to the bank and starts flopping around , she lets out a scream and takes off running down the bank. The little pole is over her shoulder and when she looks back she see the fish following her and screams some more and keeps on running. I was trying to get her to stop but no way when that evil fish is chasing her. I get her gathered up in my arms and she peaks at the fish with tears running down her rosy cheeks. She ask me why that fish was chasing her, to fun and cool for words.
