I just don't understand the problem with stem cell research!! Especially, if the cells are drawn and used for one particular person.

Cloning??? I 'm not on board with that. But Heart, Liver, Brain cell replacement ?

Why, or why not?

I don't expext to live to be 227yrs old, but if my mom could have a liver repaired, with her own cells, and live a bit more, if she wants too...... I'll back it.

I work in a medical school. Some pretty conservative people here are pretty pissed about the far right attitude on the stem cell issue.

Its like a cell is life or something, they are extreme. Its needed, the stem cell research, others will do it, it will be done privately. That's what I'm hearing. You're right to question the problem with it.

Sorry if I sound stupid but we step on living cells everyday ,don't we ?
sperm as far as I am concerened is a form of life itself , and in canada the act of masterbation is not iligal ( I'm sure there are alot killed off prematurelly not getting to there final goal ,haha ) yes, the doctors and scientists play god all the time blood trans fusions, and the like, save lives all the time .
We all play a little god at times when we take a life to feed our selves.
I don't believe in cloning ,too many things go wrong with the product end result. but a non sentient cell that can help cure cancer , M.S. or other disorders . I am all for it.

I'm surprised to hear the general tone of this thread. I would expect a different angle from this group.

I am hugely for stem cell research. The playing god argument is a crock. CPR is playing god for crying out loud. And besides I think it's arrogant of us to even think we would be capable of playing god. I expect if there is a god, he isn't doing any of the lame mundane things we are.

Either way I expect in 100 years this will be as routine as setting a broken leg and the people of the future will wonder what all the fuss was about.

I have a problem with cloning-no real good reason, I just have a problem with it. However, I think using a few undesignated (super) cells to cure disease or aid in the treatment of disease is great. I think we need to steer clear of the "others will do it so we have to" arguement, this discussion can be won with better logic. At the risk of attracting anti-religious sentiment-If you believe in god, you know his hand is needed for any good to be accomplished-If you do not believe in God,you are silly to even have a discussion on the 'is it playing God' issue. I odnt really care what anyone thinks but to many play god i mean as in goin on tv,playing god in moveis,or cloning reall ife or not it playing god, when ur gone ur gone that it, nuff said,i rather have my man in a jar ashe also would like least i htink so , but i owuldnt sit there be obsessed and have him made theres only one perosn when he or she gone they are gone least thier soul, clonging , they arrnt the same they look the same that it, hell i found many look like me, but she isnt me, plus what ifthey come out evil, those pretty screwed up horror movies the oldr one sare better i agree as in reving ,or surgery yes thats true but cloning way diff
