Sierra Club at it again

There was a time, ten years ago, that I gave the Sierra Club the benefit of the doubt. I had a friend, a hard core backpack hunter, who was leading their attempts to try get Sierra Club involved in traditional conservation issues where hunters have been the leader. I even went so far as to do a magazine piece for them talking about the importance of roadless areas to hunting.

Needless to say, my buddy left after a couple years of frustration. Poor guy.

Sierra Club always says they are not anti-hunting. Sure, whatever. Jerry Sandusky also said he was not a pedophile.

Here is the most recent Sierra Club request that would impact hunting. This follows they most recent attempt to pressure the California Legislature to remove the CA Game and Fish Director for coming to Idaho and participating in a legal mountain lion hunt. They recently announced their anti-trapping position.

Fortunately, the Federal Agency ruled that nothing will be changing. 'Spose the Sierra Club will want that person removed, also.

Wonder how much money Sierra Club has invested in Wyoming winter range that would benefit those elk and those grizzly bears? I suspect the answer would be less money than I could shake out of Mrs. Fin's couch.

Sierra Club claiming to not be anti-hunting is like SFW saying they got wolves delisted.

One summer when I was home from college a representative from SC came to my parents door wanting to talk about the benefits of the SC and see my interest in joining. I asked a bit about the group and we had a good dialogue. After a couple of minutes I told him that it was most likely not a good fit for me or my family since we were hunters. He quickly replied that SC was not anti hunting and many members were hunters. Then I informed him that my father and brother were both mining engineers and I was currently studying mining engineering in Missouri. That quickly ended the conversation.

I'd be a member LONG before I joined the NRA.

^^^^^ This.

You can't leave a can of Coke or a doughnut on the picnic table, but you can leave a gut pile with lead bullets in it???

This is a bigger issue than "anti-hunting", it has to do with the issues around the purpose of hunting in the National Park, the goals, and the convoluted idea of feeding way too many elk each winter in Jackson Hole.

If, the purpose of hunting in the Park, all along, was population control, why were they issuing Bull tags? Why not just cow tags?

The Sierra Club is not out to end hunting. There may be some members of the Sierra Club that are anti-hunting, and, they may have convinced the Sierra Club to throw some weight into their efforts to end hunting in a National Park.

I don't know what a reasonable time frame is, but something like hunting in a National Park for purposes of elk population control might possibly be an ok thing to occasionally study and revisit. We all know that the Grizzlies and the Wolves are eating all the elk, so there may not be any need to have the hunt any more.

Faux outrage is faux....

Fin, I put the Sierra Club in the same category as Defenders of Wildlife. Neither is to be trusted.

Randy,

I see that the Democrats are not going to fight the anti-hunting democrat organizations.

Does RMEF get involved in these lawsuits?

Is this a specific chapter of the SC? I know from a friend who use to work for them that their chapters beliefs and actions can vary significantly depending on their members.

That said, my friend who is fairly liberal, had to leave the SC because he simply saw the bigger picture they are another group that has gotten too big and was more interested in feeding their bank account instead of saving habitat.

This hunt has been going on for 61 years! What, did the griz just start eating gut piles in the last couple years? Sorry, SC, perhaps you should take some of your letter writing effort and go remove the gut-piles you are so worried about.

This happened 2 years ago.

Where were you? Why didn't you file suit? Why do you approve of the Sierra Club targeting someone for lawful hunting?

I know I spoke out against it.
