Got my first response of the two draws I actually put in for this year so I wanted to go ahead and start this thread.....help carry through to the fall. As of today I will be hunting with a bull tag (3rd choice) in 1st season in 26. CPO and his boy both pulled cow tags for the same. Redman got himself a bull tag too and will be in camp....along with the Wisconsin boys. I am still waiting to hear about the IL hunt for the year. On that note, as of today, I have FINALLY secured a 7.62 pistol for IL usage. CMMG has been an absolute customer service FAILURE to me....almost 10 months and the best I could get out of them is "we might build one this summer, maybe" with a total "meh" attitude. And this is to somebody you want to SELL your firearms? Gotcha.....so I secured a POF Rogue 12.5 pistol from our Omaha store and will have range reports hopefully in a couple of weeks. I has been a good day!!!

I’m in for this post! I’ll be curious about the range report on that pistol!

I already have a Vortex Strike Eagle 1-8 and the Vortex/Seekins Precision cantilever mount waiting to go find a home on top!! I plan on trying rounds ranging from 150 to 180grs. Quite a few reports have the 12.5 in barrels liking a bit heavier bullet.

Got a bit of a kick in the pills good/bad news yesterday. IL governor signed some new regs starting in 23. Good-legalizes straight wall cartridge rifles. Bad news- my new pistol in 308 will no longer be legal.....SMDH. Still happy to have it but looks like only get to use it there this year......then I will be using the 44 mag Handi Rifle I have from the Indiana straight wall days. It's all good one way or the other :)

Leave it to this state to kick you in the nuts every chance it gets.

Of course, after YEARS of swearing there would NEVER be rifles used in IL.......since the little bugger will only weigh about 7 lbs including optics I will find critter-gitter duties for it.

CPO and I headed up to our usual camp area for some camp n drink 4th weekend relaxation. The vegetation up there looks great. Plenty of moisture for this time of year. Saw deer, elk, pronghorn, fox, coyotes and even a cow MOOSE within 20 feet of where we usually set our tent! Temps were cool and we had light showers each afternoon. CPO and I both had some new boots (Crispi lightweights for me and some Zamberlands for him) so we took the opportunity to put some miles on them. Hiked out and around all three days and probably put 18-20 miles on from 9-11k feet. Here are some pics

Put in my time off requests last night to cover IN,IL, and here in CO. Next up will be changing out the scope on Simo to the new 4.5x20 Razor LHT I got recently so I can get him re-zero'd along with zeroing the POF to be ready for all seasons......hopefully in the next week or two. Still searching for those elusive Nosler 180gr BTs for Simo........almost a full year of looking at this point.

Big news today!! This weekend I'll be chasing cow elk in Wyoming!! I'm taking a couple of Vets on an American Heroes in Action hunt thanks to a generous landowner. If we get those guys tagged out I may get a shot at one myself. I'll be using the POF straight off that zero!@@

Went out last evening and then again this morning....same news all three times. There is a bachelor group LIVING in the corn that will not leave it and the herd (+- 80) cows that were there have apparently unassed the AO as we drove the entire extent of what is NOT a small ranch looking. Even more frustrating is that the group of bulls included 4 I would put over 320 with 2 of them probably on the fat side of 350 :( Always a brides maid :) Still a great time had by the group of us and wonderful to meet a really down to earth and friendly rancher and his family.

It is FINALLY time to get out after it again. I got Jack loaded and I'm getting ready to head out to CPO to stage for our 1st season hunt. We are heading up from his house at zero dark thirty Wed to give us plenty of time to get situated and enjoy camp prior to opener on Saturday. Nothing but bull tags in camp this year so it will probably either be feast or famine.....we shall see!!
