Regardless of what you go with for a make and model, I was skeptical when I put a tri-fold on my pickup after I bought it. Never had a topper or bed cover of any kind before. I honestly love having one now. It gets a little dusty on occasion, but its easy enough to open up and blow or wash it out. Keeps gear secure and out of sight (coolers, camping gear, etc). I was helping a friend side his house a couple weeks ago and a storm blew in fast. Folded up my miter saw, table saw, and grabbed my cordless stuff and threw it under the cover and it all stayed dry while the weather blew over. I've thrown a memory foam pad in the bed and slept under the cover in a sleeping bag while antelope hunting. Also ran an inverter generator under it (with the tailgate down to vent exhaust) in a rainstorm when I was plugged into my camper. Personally, I would spend about $800 to $1,000 on a decent hard tri-fold, then go spend $1,200 on a used 10-12ft utility trailer if you the space to keep one. Haul tools & gear under the bed cover and put lumber, rock, mowers, UTVs on the trailer. That's what I ended up doing and I've never cussed having the bed cover on because of the space it takes up. Either way, I doubt you ever regret having one regardless of the decision you make.
