Self defense pistol recommendations.

Just find some 1cm guns to shoot, pick the one that fits best or that you can change the grips on to suit you and boom, bobs your uncle.

I personally like the simplicity of a double action revolver. I like 357 for versatility. Generally use 38 special +p for if in town or heavy bear loads when out hunting. I think a revolver is easier to learn the function of.

Nothing wrong with a semi auto. Based on what you want it for I'd probably stick with a 9mm. Plenty of ammo options and easier to learn on and have control of. A 10mm would be overkill for your daily needs.

I'd suggest looking up shooting ranges near you. Some will have ones you can rent to fire. Generally you have to buy the ammo from them. Good to handle and see how it feels in your hand.

I wonder how many folks contributing to this thread have actually killed or tried to kill a living creature weighing over 150 lbs. with a 9mm under any circumstances…
Lots for me with both the 9mm 124 Gold Dots and .40 165 Gold Dots. Can’t tell a lick of difference between the two. Again, elk, deer, bears…

Go with a Glock. I carried a Glock for over 25 years in one caliber or another from 9mm to 45. As far as no safety, there are several internal safeties. The only external safety is in the middle of the trigger. If your finger is not on the trigger it won’t go off.

Glock pistols are amazing, Two friends have owned them and I have shot them and could find no flaws. Still I have no interest in owning or carrying one.
I like the Charters Arms Undercover Lite, "2" inch barrel rated for 38 special +P. Comes with great recoil absorbing grips, it is strong, double action not as smooth as a Model 60 Smith & Wesson but reliable and so light I forget I have it on.

Semi auto get heavy with all those bullets in them

Years back I carried a Charter Arms Bulldog 44 Special. 5 shots. Also, surprisingly light and compact. kick was a push back not a hard snap

This was dad's truck gun. I have it today. Shooting it with the factory wood grips was, erm, exciting. Snappy to say the least. I put some pachmayr grips on it to make it shootable. Did a trigger job on it too. It's a lovely little belly gun.
