Maybe another "I can't believe this shit ". I was whining about a bad reaction to my shingles vaccine a few days ago. It wasn't the vaccine but I got the covid crap. I know where I got it and lucky its relatively mild. Of course I infected my shorter half before we knew what it was. Here's my rant. My doctor says he'll cut a script for some paxlovid but it will conflict with some other mods. My wife's doctor says pretty much the same thing and leaves it up to us whether to take paxlovid or the conflicting meds. Both doctors also order up a couple handfuls of test kits. So yesterday afternoon she heads for town, 75 mile round trip. Before she leaves the pharmacy called to say they would prefer if she would call from the parking lot and they would bring the stuff out to her car. Cool! She gets there and there's no test kits. The pharmacy says our coverage won't pay for them and they're 20 bucks each! WTF?? The government gives them away yet the health care coverage that is around 1000 bucks a month paid by Medicare won't cover the damn test kits??
Whatabunchabullshit.

Isn't insurance awesome. You should be able to get tests here.

Yeah, I ordered them already. Living where we do has some disadvantages. Unfortunately one of those is that the usps only delivers on Tuesday and Friday. Optimistically, we may see them the beginning of December

Welcome to beaurocracy.
It's not as much the beaurocracy as it is the ruthless greed of Kaiser Permanente health care system. I've had kaiser for 71 years since I was born. It has crumbled from a top of the line coverage that you were fortunate to have to a high priced money grabbing system. It can take a couple months to get a routine appointment at times

Love Kaiser, they won't test for anything, and won't get you to a specialist until after you've worked through all the levels of fee for service. We've had two patients with a positive cancer diagnosis and they won't see the patients for months.

This is why I recommend large animal veterinarians for your rural healthcare needs.

Heal up quick!

I know of several doctors that have moved away from kaiser. They put actual time limits on how long an appointment can last. 20 minutes from start to finish. They also are grouping their specialists. You may have to travel over 100 miles to see a specialist after you've jumped through all the hoops. Our problem is that at our age, we don't want to jump to another unknown coverage.

The vet was out to the house the other day checking calves and he asked what meds we needed. Asked for some penicillin. He has no pen for cattle because of a syphilis outbreak with humans.

You don't need the test kits. You have it. When you start feeling better, move on with your life.*

*not medical advice

Agreed. But I'd sure hate to give it to another person. With my lifestyle there's not much difference between a 10 day quarantine or not. I don't see anyone for sometimes weeks at a time anyway. My closest squirrel hunting buddy passed away a week ago today. My other closest buddy is over 2 hours away. 10 day quarantine isn't any inconvenience.

I know your pain with kaiser @Redmt we have them too. Completely gone to $&@!. Whether its getting medication for a simple cold for my son, or seeing a specialist for my foot/ankle issues, kaiser has been nothing short of a pita.

I wrote them a letter calling them out on being derelict of their duties as a medical provider, negligent in their care, among other words and names. Ironically they quickly hooked me up to see a specialist and get a mri. After finding torn ligaments, I never got a followup call about my mri. They do not care.

To play devils advocate, our hospital system is stressed due to the amount of people it is required by law to service, who dont pay for the services, and dont take care of themselves. Government ruined healthcare for the middle class by forcing us to pay for everyone's healthcare, and forcing hospitals to care for people who cannot afford services. They cant turn anyone away, ever. So the system is abused. People who can afford private doctors are the only ones who get the healthcare we all used to expect. Thats what happens when you force a capitalist business model into socialism. I may get ?!$& for saying that by some on here but if they lived in CA and saw whats going on, there would be no argument. It is exactly what it is, and we all suffer now for that.

Quarantine is now 5 days, at least here in WA. And non one follows that anyway.

If you feel sick, stay home and away from people until you are not sick. Taking a test and knowing doesn't really change anything. Lots of other bugs make people sick, too. If you where sick but didn't have covid would you go spend time around people?

Not surprised about insurance. Between hospitals and insurance companies, no one really cares as long as they get paid. Anyone who believes the government couldn't do a better job or at a minimum equally as shitty, has never had to deal with insurance for major claims.

I am speculating here, but strongly suspect you are in one of their medicare advantage plans. IMO, it is criminal they way these plans are so strongly marketed to the public. The lure is the waiver of monthly premiums. What they don't tell you is that you are stuck in a limited network of doctors and that they will deny many procedures, tests, yada, yada.

That is my rant. Ironically, there is an ad for a medicare advantage plan on the tv as I type.

5 days starting when? 5 days after you test negative from the tests that health care clowns want to sell?
Here is what I find.

If you tested positive for COVID-19 and have symptoms, isolate for at least 5 days* after your symptoms first appeared. You can leave isolation after 5 full days if:
  • Your symptoms are improving 5 days after the start of your isolation, and
  • You have not had a fever for 24 hours without use of fever-reducing medication

I honestly don't know what coverage we have. I do know we have some of the same doctors we have had for years. My wife's doctor she has had at least 30 years. It's the overall lack of service and availability to care when you need it.
