Hello,

I scored a whitetail yesterday for a friend and I scored him using the common beam (tine was measured as an extra vs the G3) and I'm curious if the folks with some scoring experience agree with my interpretation of that rule based on the pics. Appreciate any feedback.

Oofda. Plan to net it out? How good of a friend and do you want to stay friends? That’s probably how I would approach this.

I’m interested to see what the knowledgeable scorers say. I would not call that a common base imo simply because the centerlines of the tines trace down to the main beam

My initial reaction was that common base is correct, but I got to thinking about it and now think @rogerthat might be right. @BOHNTR could tell us.
My initial thought was the same as yours and I share your guys' confusion here, I feel like he's on that edge and I'd love to hear from some folks with more knowledge on the topic. I'm far from a pro at this, just really enjoy doing it and want to be as accurate as possible.

What I’m seeing is a G3 that does not have a common base…..just a bit more webbing between the G2 and G3 than normal. The centerline of the G3 definitely originates from the top/outside edge of the beam, which by rule must be measured as a normal point. Hope that makes sense.

Roy,

Thank you very much for the feedback and I can see that with your very clear explanation of the rule.
